Hey, I will soon be receiving a 1998 Eclipse GST Spyder Auto. These are my current project ideas. Please give me your opinion and tell me what I should change/do differently.

1) New intake filter/piping (There are no available CAIs or SRIs for the Spyder so I will need to get one fabricated)
2) Greddy BOV (I'm debating on if I should either recirc the BOV, or have it VTA. If I VTA I will get it dyno-tuned to accommodate for the change in my fuel/air ratio)
3) Cat-Back Exhaust (Don't have a specific one yet)
4) Suspension (I need help choosing)
5) FMIC
6) High Flow Downpipe
7) 02 Housing
8) Header
9) 190 lph Fuel Pump
10) Intercooler Piping
11) 18G Turbo...?
12) Clutch Kit
13) LSD
14) Injectors
15) Flywheel

It's just a rough idea but some ideas and help would be great..Thanks!

What do you mean no CIA or SRI for the Spyder? From the fire wall up spyders and hard tops are the same? If your keeping your stock mass there are countless available intakes I guess non of them are "cold air" but thats what people make plates for to block the filter from the engine heat. I personally have a ram air set up.

IMO most AWD swaps never make it to the street. There are a few on here that are really nice. But the amount of fabing needed with moving the fuel tank, under body supports, transmissions, center diff, rear diff, etc, etc etc. You would be better of sending you time and money in the motor and tuning the front wheel drive.

I hope this build materializes for you, but you have a lot of research ahead of you to do.

some of these goes without saying. Like if your going to run 18g then obviously you need bigger injectors along with a fuel system. By the looks of things this will be a track car or some sorts. However being that it's a soft top it would be better off as a DD. You would have one sick DD with your upgrades, but ditch the whole 5 speed awd setup. It will cost too much time and money (and probably still be unreliable without a ton of maintenance) So my suggestion to you is to either ask for a gsx or just stick with FWD. The money you spend on the drivetrain swap could be used towards suspension and body upgrades. (carbon fiber, not body kit) But if you still doing everything you have in mind it would be:
Badass-yes
practical-no

Here is my 2 cents:

1) Get a 5-speed to begin with, or leave as is. Stick with FWD.
2) Injen Intake or FP Intake pipe with K&N filter
3) BOV from a 1g DSM
4) Megan Racing Cat-back
5) Eibach Pro Lowering springs and KYB AGX shocks
6) ETS FMIC with short-rout piping
7) Megan Racing Downpipe
8) Megan Racing O2 Housing
9) Ported stock manifold or ported Evo III manifold
10) 255 lph Fuel Pump
11) ETS Intercooler piping(included with intercooler kit)
12) Evo III Big 16g
13) ACT 2100 or 2600 lb clutch kit
14) Quaife LSD
15) 650 cc Injectors
16) Fidanza Flywheel

Don't forget you need something to tune with, and manual boost controller, gauges, and at least a wideband so you can tune.

Well the car is my grandfathers...and it's automatic...I'm not picking one out...that's the reason for the swap, and yes I plan it to be my DD, and also do you think I should do the upgrades in that order?

For the most part in that order... kind of. Supporting mods first, after all the maintenance. And ECMLink is probably a better bet. However with DSMLink you will need an EPROM-ECU. They can be hard to find occasionally. But in a prior conversation with one of the Moderators he lead me to some of the sample logs ECMLink provides. It was shockingly user-friendly.

Do most of the stuff in that order except the fuel pump and clutch/ flywheel upgrade should be one of the first things done. Do you have a tuning device in mind?

Yea I plan to get a Boost Controller and a Fuel/Engine Management System early on...will all these parts still fit even when I (if i) swap turbos to a Big 16G?

No offense but from reading that list im going to say your going to have a very very hard time doing a awd swap or 5spd swap. Have your ever done any automotive work close to the level of tranny/ drive train swaps? Not trying to steer you away from trying ,it's alot more work than most people think.

^^^^+1
Baby steps, intake, exhaust, air/fuel tuner. I'd hate to see another car pushed off into the corner that gets taken apart and never put back together.

you should leave it auto and just build the tranny. start off small do the free mods, then progress from there.

Oh its not a HONDA you dont need headers and a cold air intake

If he wants to spend his money on his car who are we to tell him not to. If he doesn't know what he is doing he will soon find out what he can or can't do himself, you have to start somewhere. Sokasar, the intake should work with the new turbo, but you'll want to get the intercooler piping specifically for the turbo you want. Everything else will fit with the 16G.

i agree id first make a goal of what u want to achieve with a car. then decide what model. like myself i wanted to build a DD/autox/1/4 weekend car so i chose a 97 5spd gsx. they are not hard cars to find if it was me i wouldnt settle for less than you want in the first place. ( like me i got a wrx when i wanted a sti) for my dd atm

It's not that I want to blow my money on it...I'm young and I've never owned a car, I came to this site and I posted in order to learn and figure out what will work best for my car. I'm not trying to be ignorant...I'm just trying to learn. and thanks for the reply, whenever someone says something on here I learn something new...so thank you

I will have to trow my .02 in with the others that said ditch the AWD swap, from what I understand the floor pands are diffrent from a FWD to an AWD. so there is alot of custom fab that needs to be done to even get it to mount in a FWD car

If your dead set on AWD, build what you have as far as engine, and supporting mods, fix your int the way you want, get the rims/tires you want... then look for a AWD shell and swap it all over from the FWD into the AWD
