Picked this '91 Talon TSi couple months ago. Rings were shot, dirty as hell from sitting out side. Managed to get the motor and tranny out. Busted a caliper mount off of the spindle while trying to press the axle out. Rear brakes are rusted stuck. Oh and almost all the studs are shot for the wheels.
So far Ive replaced the knuckle, tore down the motor and sent it to the machine shop, and bought and waiting for some rear calipers.
I wasnt really feeling the tan interior so I found some good deals and have proceeded to convert it to black/grey. Ive got everythign for that besides carpet, front seats and visors. I also managed to snag a rear hatch cover. :thumb:
Ive decided that since its torn down that I might as well work on some paint. Better now when I cant drive than when thats all I can drive right? Im working on stripping the engine bay and front end panels so that the engine bay can be painted black.
As for exterior color Im undecided. I cant pic between Graphite Silver, Black, White, or a dark metallic red.

And though many have talked about it but most never go through with it, Im planning on changing the popups to stationary using the stock turnsignal piece. I plan on making it look as stock as possible, and welding the popup covers to the hood.

The best thing is how clean the shell actually is. If there is rust its small specks of surface, and the body isnt too bad except for dome dings and dents and the keying that somone so graciously added.

Did you already get the clip off or is it stuck? Have you detached the little rubber bracket part that is right before the little part that you have to twist? In other words can the cable pivot on the point that attaches?

(Wow, those parts are hard to explain.)

Oh, and is the parking break on?

That little pin on the end of the cable is just like the throttle cable. You'll need to make sure that it stays completely level to the hole and the cable needs to be completely perpendicular to fit through the slit in the side. If you're having trouble keeping it straight, use some pliers to hold the cable perpendicular and wiggle it back and forth while using a long screwdriver under to push/pry upward.
 
two screwdrivers did it for me one large one and a medium size screwdrivers should do the trick...and brakes are cheap for our cars in canada ...4 rotor cross drilled should be about $89 usd check ebay...plus shipping of course...i even found a guy that plated them so they dont rust...they much better than using the rusty ones...heres the link TUTU AUTO - Super Performance Brake Discs and Pads :dsm::thumb:
 
Not sure if you guys could understand the part I was talking about, it is a bit hard to describe haha. Its right here (this is on the new caliper, the other side is stuck). And yes I removed the clip.

So, yeah! Push the cable toward the end through that metal part that has the bolt through it. Then you can slide it out of the metal bracket and this will give you more room to play with it. If it's stuck, try using pliers to slide the sheath part forward while prying the rubber boot through that part to the narrow segment.

Then you can slide the whole cable to the side and slip the "pin" end of the cable straight up and out of the bracket.
 
I know how the skinny end fits throught the top slot, but the larger round pice that the clip goes onto is stuck inside that hole so I cant push the cable out. Not sure if you get it, its hard to explain. I can get the very end of the cable out of its spot but not the circle piece further down.
 
I took a little break from brakes the last couple of days and finally finished the engine bay painting. Turned out pretty good. Just have toextract a few broken bolts then everything can get put back together.

Good job bro, looking good! Can't wait to finally start on my 90 GSX but I'm in Germany and it's in the states! It's at the shop now, can we say 2.3 stroker? :) What are the future plans?

For future plans, right now I just need it to run. I need a car of my own sice right now Im using a spare that my parents have, but want to sell. Regretabley as I keep working on it I'am also am trying to sell. I've had 2 or so people interested so far so I'll just have to see what happens. If I do sell it I'll most likely be buying my dads '68 Falcon, inline 6 baby. Gets descent gas mileage LOL
Mainly just waiting on money to finsh this thing off but it comes in so slow, plus the parents won't co-sign for a loan.
 
Shes coming along. Engine bay is almost completly put back together. Looks good. I got some shiny/fancy bolts for it too. :D

Got the motor back from the machine shop as well. Found out that the the ring land were blown out on two of the pistons. The machinist said it was run low on oil and the culprit was most likley the oil pressure sending unit that was bent and epoxied in by the last person that had it.

And parts came. ARP headstuds BSE kit, bearings. Just waiting on the new main bolts to get started on assembly.

Same bearings and rings i'm using in my high compression E85 motor i'm building.. Looks good. wish I coulda scored AWD for what I paid for mine. When i got mine back in 03 1g's were pretty expensive and I was a poor highschool student. I paid $400 for anot running n/t auto. Now $2500 later its a awd 5 speed. but the shell is pretty clean, and its my car. oh well.
 
Looking really good for the short amount of time you spent on it. I wish I had that amount of time for my car and I wouldn't be selling.
 
Cleaned and prepped the block and layed some primer down. Color will be cast coat iron. Still waiting on the main bolts too actually do any assemblying.
