Here's a bit of progress. . .
First of all take a look at this thread on the elantra 1.6/1.8 head. As mentioned in the last thread, this head has a 43cc chamber. And I measured a 13mm width from chamber to chamber, vs. the stock 4g63 which has about 8mm width.
I bought the 10 TTY 7bolt 4g63 head bolts (fel-pro brand) for $35, plus $16 partsdinosaur.com head gasket. I had to seal 5 holes in the block with freeze plugs. The details on how to do this is in the 3rd paragraph of this detailed how-to page. With that done I put on the g4cn 1.8 hyunday head. Now I have 10:1 CR and a 2.4 block for $80 cost of the head. I traded the 6bolt n/t 4g63 block for a 4g64 block. And I've seen both blocks sell frequently for the same price. so WALA! .4 liters more and 1.0CR higher than n/a all for $80 + $35 + $16
I bought a used pacesetter n/t 4g63 header for $100
. Deal. Yes. But the good ol obx header on ebay is an identical 4-2-1 design for $150. IDENTICAL in shape, welding, everything but the pacesetter nameplate. Here's the header and head on the 2.4 block:

So total invested is a reasonable $80 + $35 + $16 + $150 = $280 . . . PLUS the 7bolt fly wheel for $60 more.
I had to trade up flywheels. I bought a refurbished flywheel from autozone for $60 The 6 bolt flywheel as a core exchange was accepted:

Here is the N/T 1g block plate attached to the 4g64.

As you can see there is space for the 3 o'clock bolt to hole to be used (the 1g tranny doesn't use this hole). This is good. This will be used for the custom 4g64 front roll stop. . . Which is actually not really scary. . . if you can take a moment to picture the combination of parts. This will be another blog.
Total so far $340. Updates to this build will be in the below catagory of my blogs:
