problem with passenger door handle

There's something wrong with the door handle mechanism on the passenger side I'll explain and see if someone can come up with a solution. There is a metal rod that connects to the door handle held together by a white plastic clip. This rod pushes down another rod that is supposed to unlatch the door when it's closed. The problem is there is a gap between these two rods so that it's not pushing anything when I pull on the door handle. Anyone ever had this problem and know a fix for it.

i had the same problem the handle wouldn't push down on the lever enuf to open the door. so i went ghetto i got a bolt and put some RTV on it and putt it through the gap ( i tried every thing to put a nut on it but i couldn't ) and it works. I had it in there for a bout 4 years now! ;D

I put a screw inbetween with a drill, been fine since....Might even work better than before

hey all..

ive been having some of the same problems as some with their door not opening. it all started when the actual handle broke,,no problem. i buy a new handle install it. but now theres a problem with the actual mechanism. i posted a picture to show exactly whats going on. the passenger door was acting up a few years ago from the same thing, and i too, went ghetto on it and stuck really thick weedeater line in the gap and took care of that problem. works great! trying the same thing on the driver side did not work. i tried to put various size bolts to make up the gap but thats not even working. now, the handle that i bought was from ebay. could it be that the spring in the handle isnt as strong as the ones from the factory? theres nothing left that i can do and im close to just taking it to a shop and having someone else mess with it. any other suggestions that i can try would be greatly appreciated.
