I am having trouble syncing my palm IIIc with my laptop. It just won't sync for some reason. I have palm desktop 4.1.4 and a proper serial to usb adapter with driver installed.

Can somebody help me out?

I just went through this myself, I'm not a computer guru but I had to make a profile name in my Palm IIIc to get it to sync. I don't know if it was just dumb luck or I did it right. Are you trying to reinstall OBD or mmcd on your Palm? Also the first time I installed the palm desktop thing I did it wrong and had to reinstall it. Hope this helps, I had the same problem now it works fine. And also when trying to sync there are 2 choices one is modem and the other is something else trying messing with that, that is on the screen on the palm when it tells you that it was not able to sync. Sync with one then the other. Hope this helps again.

I am trying to get MMCD on my Palm yeah. I just don't understand what I am doing wrong. What setting do you have on your Hotsync?

Cradle/Cable on bottom and local on top. Where it says Cradle/Cable the other option say's IR to a PC/Handheld. Make sure it says Cradle/Cable and not IR to a PC/Handheld.

Make sure the option is setup for the "cable/dock".
Also make sure you have the right COM port selected.
Start hot sync on the palm itself.

Some adaptor cables just won't work. You need the original palm cable to serial end. Or buy the usb one from ecmtuning.com

I've had a lot of trouble getting my IIIc to hotsync either. Sometimes it would only work if you press the button on the cradle and not if you opened hotsync from the pc. One day I tried to pull a log of the Palm and it would never hotsync successfully. I don't think I ever got it working. Maybe try running hotsync in compatibility mode for Windows 2000 or 98 since this was the OS back when this palm came out. Just a thought.

True about the cable adapters I bought the first one and did not work then bought the Keyspan and worked. Just sync'd mine, make sure that the sync icon on the start up menu is up, I had to restart my computer to get it up, I tend to clear all that stuff up cause I play video games. Keyspan USA-19HS amazon.com. and MadDSM.com has alot of nice stuff software wise.

Mine does not say "cradle cable" it says "direct serial".

How is your Hotsync program on your computer setup? Local USB or local serial?

Both Local USB and Local Serial are checked on my laptop. Hummm. On your Palm screen for hotsync opertation you have on cable right. I don't know what else could be the issue.

Ill try cleaning the contacts.

If you got the sync manager set to serial, its going to look for a serial port, do you have a 9 pin serial port on your pc? BTW yes you have to configure your palm for your name profile, then when you sync it you use that name.

As for 1stgents's problem, wht your probably have a problem with is broken data. MMCd will not download a file if you pause a log, and start again. IT must be one continuous log, no pause start to end straight. Go out, clear your logs, start a new log press pause, and finish it to save it. then go sync that file I bet you it'll work for you.

I give up. This things not syncing. No I don't have a 9 pin serial, that's why I bought the serial to usb adapter...

I think thats a common problem. Find someone with an older pc. You'll figure it out. You got the hotsync man. set for usb right?
