Precision SCM-61 turbo

Found a Precision SCM-61 turbo on craiglist needs rebuilt $100. go or no go? And where might I find a rebuild kit if i decide to get it?

Pretty much any SCM61 you'll find will need rebuilt- those things have a tendency to eat thrust plates when used at a boost level where the compressor can actually move air. I don't know a single person who has gotten more than 5k on theirs without some sort of issue, even when oiling the turbo exactly as PTE instructs.

Concerning parts- you could need anywhere from just a standard rebuild kit to a complete new center housing and everything in between. You could be getting a good deal for $100, or you could be completely flushing it down the toilet.

Thank you for the excellent info , i think I am going to pass on this turbo after reading this , I am going to wait and get a Holset.
