Hey Guys,

Quick question for everyone,

I am currently running and scm6152 turbo. I am looking to upgrade the turbo. I was thinking HX35 or 40.
Is there a benefit to either one of these?
I know the 6152 is a good turbo, I am just unsure if it is worth keeping. I am looking for something more efficient and bigger.

I have 1000pte injectors, 280 cams, 255 walbro fuel pump, and many other mods.

what are your guys thoughts?

I value your opinion and experience but it's always the same pte this pte that garbage. I've had my 6152re for years with no problem. Not saying im the norm but the same goes the other way. This turbo made 500+ years ago on a little mitsu hotisde.

Sorry to bring up a dead thread, but can we elaborate a little more on the 6152 Ball Bearing? Specifically with rebuild options, does anyone know about converting journal bearing to ball bearing?

* Rebuild as JB - what is a good rebuild kit? OR send into PTE for a $175 rebuild.
* Rebuild as BB - I haven't had any luck finding a PTE BB CHRA.
* Rebuild with a Garrett BB CHRA - is it possible, has anyone done it?

Pretty sure cant convert a JB to a BB without changing the entire chra, which is essentially buying a new turbo.

If your JB 6152 needs rebuilt, I would look into cheaper, more efficient, easier options. I used to have a 6152r in a t3 housing which I really liked, but it developed a little shaft play and the turbine wheel had a little damage. Having no options but sending it into pte for a more than likely expensive rebuild, I went with a hx-40 that I knew I could cheaply rebuild if needed. And love it by the way

Right, I thought you needed a whole CHRA for ball bearing. Problem is, I can't find one, so I have no price either. Can't really weigh my options properly. I found a number of Garrett CHRAs so it was worth asking if they were directly comparable since this turbo is basically a 3582r as I understand it. I see myself upgrading to a ball bearing setup anyway. So this turbo (in a T3 setup) can make over 600 AWHP which would get me to my short term goal.

I know the 6-blade HX40 will get there too, but if I was going to do that, I would rebuild the 6152 to a JB, and not have to immediately change my Mitsubishi flange.. Until I want to.

I'm teaching myself to weld with a MIG. So more options may open up down the line. But those mentioned are very real options right now.

Pte used to use garrett chra's once upon many moons ago, who knows how they modify the shaft and weather or not it will work, I'm also one of the many that went from bolt on 6152R to hx40. They are similarly sized but as justin pointed out the turbine housing with ptes are always a restriction. Hx40 is a great snail. But me personally will be going to an FP turbo next time i upgrade.

* Rebuild as JB - what is a good rebuild kit? OR send into PTE for a $175 rebuild.
You'll never, EVER escape with a $175 bill from PTE. Last time I sent a customer's turbo back for a service quoted at the same price, the end result was $370 spent...and I already had it tore down and all the parts were media-blasted, all they had to do was reassemble it. Just like free lifetime oil changes...nothing's ever what it seems.
* Rebuild as BB - I haven't had any luck finding a PTE BB CHRA.
You won't.
* Rebuild with a Garrett BB CHRA - is it possible, has anyone done it?
Not possible. The 6152 is a T3-type turbo, not a GT-type. Nothing will fit or line up- it would be the same as if you were trying to adapt a CHRA of a different brand altogether.

Thanks Justin that's what I thought.... That with their mixed reviews of rebuild quality is why it's still in my garage partly disassembled.

So then.. On to sourcing a quality 6152 JB rebuild kit until I can get a complete turbo setup of my choice.
