hello! requesting some info and reviews

I recently came across a turbo that i’ve since identified as an older precision SC-61 and plan to use on my 6-bolt 4G63 in a mix of street-use and autocross events. I plan to run primarily stock-level internals, but I have the option to upgrade to forged pistons and rods if it’s needed. I’ll be running 660cc injectors, but that may change sometime soon. Power goal is somewhere around 350-450 HP. I see that this turbo is mainly used on Hondas, but has anyone put one on any of our 4Gs? How did it go? Anything to note when using one of these?

Im no turbo guru but if I recall this is essentially a journal bearing version of an old school 35r. Specs aside there’s a few issues here. One being your 660cc injectors aren’t going to be enough to use this turbo up in its efficiency range, even on pump gas, if you plan to use it you’re going to need to choose a different injector that’ll support it in its efficiency range to make it worth your time. Second being if you plan to be competitive at all in auto cross this isn’t the correct turbo selection, it’s by no means a lag monster but most of the hardcore auto cross crowd go with the stock 1g 14b or a 16g for the responsiveness, on most auto cross courses you’d be hard pressed to ever see any real boost on the sc61.

As far as engine internals go that’s your call. Guys and gals make tons of power on stock internals on a regular basis, but something a bit better is never bad reassurance and never hurts either, so that’s more to decide how deep into it you want to get and if it’s worth that reassurance.

In short, not at all a bad unit, but likely not the correct selection for what you’re looking to do and you’ll definitely need more fuel than what the 660s can give to make this worth your while. Not to mention, an evo 3 16g could get you up over 300 with those injectors on pump gas, this turbo might be a bit overkill for your goals.

I had a feeling it might've been too big for what I was going for. I made a quick search and found the extreme PSI evo3 16g, and I think it might be better suited for the build. I'll definitely keep the sc61 in my back pocket though, could definitely be a fun project in the future. Thank you for the advice!
