So I've been searching the forums for awhile and I couldn't find the solution to my problem. I have a 93 eagle talon with power windows and they used to work fine. My car then broke down and has been sitting for about 2 years, and now that I have it up and running, the windows don't work. I've checked the fuses and took the switches out of my car to clean the contacts, but nothings working, and no the window lock was not engaged. I even tried locking it to see if a miracle would happen, but I got nothing. It doesn't work on either door and doesn't make any noise in an attempt to work...what else can I check or do to fix this?

Thanks,
Dorene

try unplugging the connector in the door and applying power to the pins in order to force the window up and down. If this doesnt work that means the motor might be dead, or if it does work you would have a broken wire somewhere between the connector and the power source.

How can you tell if the relay is bad or not? I just traded it with another relay, and it still didn't work...should I just buy a new relay? It's only the two under the hood on the passenger side, right? And how can I apply power to the pins? (I don't know anything about electrical stuff, sorry)

before you go spending a whole lot of money replacing stuff that may or may not need replacing, try having a friend hold down the switch for the window while you give it a little manual assistance(pushing down on the glass itself). after sitting for too long the seals on the window grip like glue because they stick to the window as they dry out. i have the same problem after letting mine sit for almost 2 years. i hope this helps and you dont have to spend too much getting this problem fixed. good luck!

The only hard part is that when I have to time to work on my car, my bf isn't home and my friends are at work, i'm gonna have to ask the mailman to help me LOL...but that makes sense I'll have to try that out. Thanks.

I have the same problem no defrost, rear, where is the relay for the windows, im stumped car is down anyway, but its almost finished. Everything esle works, did some wiring too.

Yes thats what i thought i know this car inside and out because its been totally torn apart, its not labled. Maybe im wrong any wiseman want to chirp in.

okay so I had help checking the relays and what not because I'm clueless when it come to electrical stuff, but they said that the relay was getting power and there was no power leaving the relay...I swapped it with another relay for the headlights and the headlights worked either way, so what does this mean?

I know the 2gs use the Master switch/drivers side switch to complete the circuit on both windows. If you unplug the driver side neither window will work. Maybe you just have a bad master switch. Try unplugging the switch and cleaning the contacts good. I dont own a 1g but if its possible switch the driver for passenger if they will plug in for testing purposes and see if this solves your prob

Well for one thing it means the relay is ok. As to the rest it depends on how and where they tested the relay. Since you don't say it means nothing.

The relay should click (activate) with the key on so hold your finger on it while someone turns the key on to see if it does. If it doesn't, then either you're not getting +12V on the relay's smaller blue/red wire or the black wire is not connected to ground.

If it does click, test to see if you're then getting +12V on the relay's large blue wire (note: relay's large blue/red should always have +12V with key on or off). You test for voltage by using a multimeter set to read on a scale that can read at least 16Volts DC minimum. Connect the minus lead to car/engine bare metal and touch the positive lead to the wire contact you want to test.

If you have proper voltage, the problem is in the window switch (most likely) or wiring to switch or window. Check the Window Lock Switch first. If it doesn't have continuity (short between it's terminals) when not activated (up), that's your problem as it must have to provide the return path for both windows.

I'm not exactly sure how one's supposed to test it, but they put the tester on each of the 4 prong things (yea i don't know what stuffs called haha, sorry bare with me) and if you're looking at the relay from the passenger side, then the top left is the one that they said was 'hot'.....but i do know that it didn't click like it's supposed too...

yes but i can't work on my car at the moment...my 25th bday was a lil crazy this weekend and i managed to break my wrist...i'll just have to wait for a while...sucks

I had a problem like this when i first got my toyota, nothing on the interior panel worked. turned out to be the wires were broken clean off and frayed in the door jam (running from the door to the side of the dash) now I bought a 93 awd tsi and the power mirrors dont work, not sure if there is a fuse for them or if it's gonna be the same problem...

I have the same problem with my drivers side window..It has never worked, but I do know the motor is good because it would go right up and down when power is applied..I have swapped ot probly 3 or 4 master window switches(drivers side) ans still nothing on my window..I have also cleaned the contact pads on the inside of the switch(did this to my wifes avenger and windows work perfect now.., but still nothing..I do have to check the wires coming into the door, they could be broken, but then again could just be bad switches I have..So if you havn't tried maiking the windows go up and down by applying power to the motor, you might want to try..Also clean the contacts in the switch themselves, It's green nasty crap that gets on the contacts and fails to let the windows work correctly.. Secondly, have someone check the wires in the door itself they may be broken or frayed, it seems to happen with vehicles as old as ours..

Good luck..

Check and see if the power mirrors are actually hooked up. On the back of the switch itself make sure the wires are connected..Other wise it's probly just a wiring issue.. I have power mirrors and I disconnected them and removed the motors, and sometimes I want to move the mirror and realize that I don't have power mirrors anymore..

I had this problem with my old 1g, took out the door panel and found out that the switch was fried.

have you checked if the actual motor itself is not dead?

Take off the door panel, get 2 long wires that will reach the battery and connect it to the motor.

first off, wish i read this first, cause i answered you in the other post...but i'm about 45 minutes from you, but it'll take a lil longer if it's a hot day ### i'll have to stop every now and then to crack my door to catch a breathe LOL...

is that the only way to test the motor? I don't know crap about electrical...so you'll have to bare with me LOL

I'd really appreciate any help you can give me, i'm getting so desperate i'm about ready to take it to the shop, but i hate paying someone else to do a job i can do myself (in this case with the right help) once i get my registration if you're willing, i'll come drive down to your area...buy you a few beers LOL
