Power Window and Power Door Lock Installation [Merged 3-7]

Cool thank you. My Olds 88 Cutlas Ciera had power everything so it was hard downgrading to a car with power nothing.

Still not really getting the need of the relay though by looking at the schematics. I get supplying the power, but it shouldn't work unless the ignition was on, right?

Next question...

I was outside working on it and having problems getting the window and the whole crank system out. Does the door split in 2 piece to get to the inside parts?

Any tips/tricks for this?

there are some trick to getting the window assembly out... so first have the window up all the way and up there stick something in between the window and the door to hold it up from there to collapse everything thats below and then twist it all
out

yes that's right. The relay is needed so there won't be power in the door wires while not using the windows. This is for safety in the event the door gets hit in an accident so a fire won't start due to shorting wires.

Makes sense. So technically not needed for the operation of the windows (like when making sure everything works), but needed (or at least highly recommended) for proper installation.

I have to try with the door again soon... I'm not sure how i'm going to pull everything out from there but it's possible. Anyone have any pictures of taking out the window or anything of that matter? Thank.

Ok I'm also going to be doing power locks now. Do I need any relays for those too? I didn't see any in the wiring diagrams. Do I need anything else besides the wiring and the actuators?

I have not had the time or the money for this project yet. I was wondering if somebody has done this already to see how hard and time consuming it is. Please let me know

ok the first off does anyone know what that bracket is called that holds the power windows switch in place? The one with 4 screws i need to get a whole new one. OK question 2. My 95 eclipse came with crank windows, and I converted it to power windows, and locks from a 98 gs. The windows work fine with the button, but im having a problem with the door locks not locking with the button does anyone know if i need another relay some where or if i need new actuators? any help would be great thanks.

EDIT: checked fuse and its fine, so I hooked the wires to the door lock actuator up to a battery source and they work with straight wiring but not from the switch so i know the motor and actuators are not bad anyone know if maybe I'm missing a relay some where?

i don't want to make a new thread. But im having problems with both passenger and driver side windows.

the passenger side window goes down nice and easy, but when im trying to close it up, the window goes up crooked. i need to hold with my hand to make it completely close.

the driver side window is not opening at all. Im getting power, but it look, that the window is stock somehow, because it wants to go down, but something is on a way....

any suggestions??

ok so i had a set of doors with power everything.. so i did the swap wiring and all and got a power window relay out of a spyder cause new they are $100 . i assumed since when i plugged my wiring harness in to the door jam plug and my locks worked that it was wired aswell for power windows.. but i cant get the windows to work.. i can unplig them and make them work by directly powering the motors but cant get them to work through the switch. ive got 2 red wires that are hot going into the relay but nothing coming back out.. im not a wiring genius but shouldnt there be a hot coming back out and going to the drivers or master switch? if anyone can help i would be very thankful. it only took me about 5 hours to do the swap and was pissed when i hooked everything up and still no power windows !!!

One of the previous owners of my car had started converting from manual to power windows/locks in my 94 eclipse base. He got everything swapped over and done except for plugging in the grey connector underneath the dash.

The white connector is there and is plugged in, but I cannot find the grey connector. Is it possible that mitsubishi used two different wiring harness' in 1g eclipse/talon ??? Why would the white connector (which is either for the power locks or power mirrors) be there, but not the grey connector ?

By the way, even with the white connectors plugged in, there's still no power mirrors or locks and everything is there including lock actuators, etc... Everything but that one grey connector that's supposed to be underneath the dash in the kick panel area.

I guess I'm one of the not so lucky ones and my car didn't come pre-wired for power windows ??? This sucks, especially when you have to open your door instead of rolling down the window when going through drive throughs, banks, etc...

Did anyone ever find out if this is true about the 1G? I am having trouble finding the grey plug as well. I wondered if it might be wrapped in the black tape used to hold the wiring harness. If anyone knows please let me know, any information is helpful.
