Power Window and Power Door Lock Installation [Merged 3-7]

:D I successfully did the manual to power window swap! works great! i have a 93' gs, and i swaped from a 90' gs.

1. look under the dash(i pulled down the kick guard) and there should be two plugs up there. one is white (which should be plugged into the harness for power mirrors) and the other is grey(power windows and locks).
2. i went to the 90' (the one WITH power windows) took out the motor/lift assembly, then unclipped all points of the harness from the door, then unplugged the two plugs from under the dash and slid them through into the door. to do this you have to get that rubber sleeve between the two doors into the door. just pry it off both ends(without tearing it) and then work it through the door. then that white plastic piece that the rubber thing attached onto has to be pried off and worked through into the door.
3. now all you have to do is take out the harness out of the other car and swap them, installing is the same as removal. then put the manual window lift in the old and the moter/lift assembly into the new! thats that! oh yeah, don't forget the power window relay under the hood. its in the box next to the battery.

for the lock conversion i swapped the entire locking mechanism. there is prolly a easier way to do this one but i did it and it works.
ASK me if you need help, i'll be glad to help. just work with it!

i don't think so... cause you still have to get the wiring harness out from under the dash into the door and then get the hinges loose. also, you have to paint them and remount them. and another thing, for example, one of my doors on the car i swapped from was all dented and scratched. so unless you find an exact door, same paint, and you know how to take them off easily i think it would be easiest to swap the internals.

I own a 2g with manual windows/locks and mirrors...I will be atttempting to do the power conversion..ill make sure to keep you guys updated o nthe procedure....Wish me luck:)

if i install power locks and windows in my car (everything is manual in mine) won't there be holes in my door panels from where the window cranks are and stuff. And will i have to cut my door panels to get the switches in there for the doors and windows? Thanks

Unless you buy new door panels, yes there will be a hole and yes you'll have to cut for switches. You can mount the switches elsewhere , such as center console. And most power window kits come with a piece that covers the window crank hole.

I would go the extra mile and just find a pair of door panels from a junkyard.....Save yourself the hasel of having to cut and cover without leaving noticable marks on your panels......I'm also doing power conversion to my talon & im definately aiming for used door panels.....let me know how your conversion turns out...good luck:thumb:

i have those nasty door panels in the 95 rs model. yes nasty i know. but i am picking up some door panels at a salavge yard this weekend and if they are all power how much of a pain is it to convert over. like the price of the power window motor. the locks are simple cause i have an alarm with power locks.

thanks

well i have some friend that all they do for a living is installs so the wiring isnt the big part i can prolly just run speaker wire and skip factory stuff. but do you know abotu where i can get window motors or if they stock can be used.

thanks
phil

ok, i searched around and couldn't come up with any to useful. I own a 96 rs with manual everything. i picked up the door panels from a gst and will be getting his motors for everything also. so first question, how do i get the motors out? the bolts are there, so if i take them out will the metal come out and i will be able to take them out of his gst? i know all the wiring is there same for all the models, so once i get it all it just plug in and put in a fuse and i should be ok. so, if you guys can tell me the process in which i have to do to hook everything up to my window for it to work. thanks alot

ye, i tired to get some basic info, but im just goin have to figure it out on my own. ill try and do a step by step for people in the future

Hey Guys,
I was just wondering about the power windows for our RS. Is it difficult to add that fiture to our cars??? Is there already prewires from factory incase guys like us want to upgrade to Power Window??? If so what is all needed to make this change??? And also on the Rear Wiper??? Thanks.

Okay, I may have missed it on my earlier searches, but the manual to power mirror conversion on a 2g seems like it wouldn't be THAT bad....except....

I can't find the connector for the power mirror switch.

I've removed the door panelling and see the connector for the power window, but I can't seem to find the power mirror switch connector. I bought the connector, removed the lower kick panel, removed the little panel w/ the cc, fog and power mirror controls would go, but nothing.

If it's taped or hidden somewhere please help.

Thanks a mil,
John

PS If I do find it (I seem to have misplaced my dealer guide) I'll post.

Hey all, I just did the power window, lock and mirror conversion on my 98 rs. I used parts from a 95 gst. I got everything in and working except the window doesn't roll all the way up. I seems to be too far inward toward the interior and doesn't fit on the top as it did before the conversion where it meets the rubber. If I roll the windows up with the door open it and shut the doors it lines up. Both windows seem streardy when the door is open and windows up, but with the windows down, they seem loose closest to the door handle. Near the mirrors the windows are nice and tight. Did I miss some parts on the swap that make not do this or is there a way to adjust everything to fit better. In my conversion, I just swapped the actuators for everything and hooked up the wiring and bolted the window back on the actuator rail part. Thanks for any help.

im doing the same thing, but i cant get my windows to work. I cant seem to find the relay control module..any help on locating this part?

Hello there. The relay you need goes under your cd/radio player. If you don't have one, email me. Otherwise the swap isn't hard. How far along are you? I really have done a write up when I did it, but it was cold. Anywho, heres a pic of the power window relay and where you need to hook it up. Its one of the two in the pic, and a pic of the wiring you need to hook it to.

mr122409 (4 prong) is the power window relay (upper right). It is also the theft alarm horn relay (lower left). mr301971 (5 prong) is the theft alarm starter relay (lower right). As to availability try the auto stores and see.
