When I'm driving, the power steering works great, but when i go to turn, if i hit the lock, it squeals like a son of a bi***, once when i hit really high rpms, it threw a couple ribs from my brand new belt

if it didn't move like and misalign the belt and just squealed then its not tight enough, tighten the belt. If you can't tighten it to where it stops then try roughing up the pulley with some sand paper and the belt alil too. If that doesn't stop it you may need another belt.

Oh, It's supposed to completely stop when the wheels hit lock?

No thats not what I meant. I meant the pump as a whole unit moving under stress. I've come across a few that would throw belts at high rpm or hard steering and it was due to a bent bolt causing the whole pump to move/misalign.
But if your dad didn't notice then its notb the issue. Just tighten the belt or get another and be sure its really tight. If it wasnt real tight may have been why it came off once.
The pulley should never stop while engine is running.

Oh, so the belt slows down because out the increased stress at the locks, and I should tighten the belt so it doesnt slip, correct?

All the way around, i tightened the belt a bunch, and it squealed like hell the whole time i was driving, but then it stopped, like the belt seated or something, no more noises from it at all

I had the same thing happen to me in my 420a it was a combination of two things. One was the adjuster bolt was slightly bent so it would tick and then the bearing went out as long as it wasn't under to much strain it would just tick but on start up or hard turning it would squeal. Then as I found those issues the clutch pack froze up on the AC pump so the AC pump was always engaged

Hope I helped

I believe I'm having the same issue on my 420a.

Anytime I turn the wheel completely left or right (at low speeds) I get a squeal. I haven't had a chance to inspect the PS belt, and the PS fluid seems okay.
