I've run into a different problem with my power steering than I've read from most of these power steering delete questions. I have had a few issues with leaks that I had been working on, but I recently busted off the only good bolt that was holding my power steering bracket to the block... literally, my power steering pump floats in the engine bay, and both bracket bolts are busted off in the block (or engine mount bracket).

I cut the belt and zip tied the crap out of the pump to the engine mount bracket. However, I've had some trouble with my alternator belt slipping and just want to remove the pump so I can get to the alternator easier.

I've been driving without PS for about a week and a half now and have had no problems. From what I understand I can loop the in line into the out line (or vise versa) on the power steering rack. Is that down by the firewall? I'm also wondering if once I do that, I can leave the power steering fluid canister in and leave it empty, or will it need fluid for hydraulic purposes? Really am lost with this one.

I know drilling and easy-outting the bolts would be the best option, but I don't have a drill or bits, and I seriously can not afford to buy one to use once. I'm going to sell this, and just go with something more reliable til I can get back on my feet, but I'll forever be a DSMer.

Dude. I removed the pump, the black container, the cooling pipe and I'm much happier. True down the road I can do a easy reinstall. But why? My problems are removing the final piping from the rack and putting bolts in those holes to plug them.[DOUBLEPOST=1412392004][/DOUBLEPOST]So much more room! =D

You are going to make the rack non functional if you just plug off the holes for the pressure and return lines. You either need to look them together, or drain the fluid and de-power it.[DOUBLEPOST=1412395283][/DOUBLEPOST]

You can just take the belt off, but it will make the steering harder to turn than with the lines looped or a depowered rack. I never get why people buy these cars and don't even own any tools, kind of silly.

Haha, I know what you mean, you can't really operate them without nearly a full garage. I just moved to North Carolina though and left my resource to tools (dad's garage) in Michigan.

I've been gettin by with what I have, but now I can't just cut the belt and be done. The two bolts that hold the PS bracket against the block are busted off. There is nothing to support the pump, so I have to completely remove it. If had the money I'd buy a garage and never get rid of the car.

I'm unsure of where to loop the lines however. Out of the rack, the top line is a rubber hose that runs and eventually connects to a metal line. The bottom line out of the rack is a metal line that runs into a bracket down near the axle. Do I need to remove that bracket and then loop the rubber hose back on to the metal line running from the bottom of the rack?
