Yesterday I was driving home from work, and my amp dies, followed by my radio and the car sputters home...Now these are sympotoms of a dying or dead alternator...my problem is I REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR not more than 8 months ago!!!...  ...
I checked the voltage at the battery and as expected it was like 10.4, I am suprised it restarted the car...the dash lights start to glow slightly.. I jumped the car and the voltage read 12.9 ( with jumper cables still attached..)...the voltage doesn't increase when revved.

could this be a blown alternator fuse or the alternator....I doubt the alternator becuase it happened suddenly, not over a a course of travel....also I the car has been idling at about 1300-1500 rpm for a couple of days, I thought that could have been a stuck throttle cable...Its a 1g :talon: awd...btw

HELP

Sounds like an alternator problem for sure. However, since you recently put one in, make sure to check all the wires for bad connections. Also, I have heard of people driving without the exhaust heat shield and killing alternators. Once in awhile you just get a bum remanufactured alternator.

I'm having the same problem. i have my waste gate off my o2 housing and its toasting the alternator.i seen a heat shield that you bolt on between the o2housing and alternator to protect it but I'm still looking for it on line, if i find it ill link it up :thumb:

It's likely one or the other and you should check the fuse first. I can't tell you how many people put "new" alternators in when it was just the fuse.

Well thanks for all the input everybody, Well travelled, before work, I got up and checked all the connectiongs and the fuse, all good, so that only left the alternator, I did have the life time warranty on it, so I called Autozone. I believe my O2 is heat soaking my Alternator, becuase when I took it off, you could see discoloration, as though it was close to some heat for a while, so I am assuming, my friend drove the car a lot harder and a lot longer than he should have, when I loaned it to him last week... , oh well thats what u get for being a friend, I guess.
dsm4lifebeoch if you ever find that heat sheild, let me knw...I'll take 2 :D

btw...I broke a connector on the oil filter housing, sits right by the oil filter, which sucks, but until rebuild time, its going to stay. I can tell the 14b is on its way out too...cause its puffs a little when under boost at 14lbs...[at 16 u think its a dodge ram diesel]...NO GOOD :notgood: so its at 14 for now until, decide to rebuild and go bigger...not to hijack my own thread, but what do you guys think..Bullseye HX35 or to4e...
Once again thanks for the input.
