I searched and couldn't find a similar thread. I found a guy selling a 1991 Eagle Talon fwd TSI for 1k.

He said its been sitting for a year and the battery is junk and it won't turn over as a result. He says it has a lot of extra parts, this is what he said is also included "There is around 146k on the body. The motor was rebuilt 4 years ago and only has roughly 15k on it, the trans was rebuilt also but has more like 20k on it. It ran fine, but def could benefit from a fuel pump and injectors. I never had the boost higher than 15psi because I was still on stock pump and injectors. Some of the extras are other than the rebuilt motor and trans are: act 2100 clutch, new flywheel, stainless clutch line, full 3'' buschur stainless exhaust, ported 2g 02 housing, 16g turbing housing, and 2g manifold, Buschur uicp, boost controller, full set of prothane motor mounts, boost, air fuel, and egt gauge, although the egt is not installed, and an safc. I think thats it. The motor was rebuilt with new 2g pistons and reconditioned big 1g rods and crank. Head was completely rebuilt. Trans im not sure what all was replaced as i bought it with a parts car but it shifts good and doesnt grind."

Is there anyway I can know it's legit before I buy it, what are somethings to look out for?
 
No start, no care. Find another car- he won't let you fkn start it? Screw that- i'd run. And dont' buy a fwd, you will regret not buying an awd in the future. I could care less how much the fwd's here compliment their cars- if given the choice (like you have) buy an awd.
 
for 1k or less I wouldnt think it be necessary for the car to run, start, or even crank. It is what it is, and its being sold AS-IS.

If your looking for a clean(ish), good running(ish) car I would hope you planned on spending more than 1k..

but i do agree about the FWD, dont even waste your time ;)
 
I'd put half down. If it runs great, awesome...here's the other half.
If it run's like shit or bends the valves give him 2/3 your offer.

If he's that un-confident in his work, get someone who is confident to double check the timing belt/marks before he starts it. I'm sure you can find someone on a local forum to give you a hand for free...or even a Jackson in they're hand.

Hell, even spin it over by hand a couple times to make sure you don't feel any resistance from valves possibly hitting the piston.

Having a fresh built motor sit isn't the best idea IMHO. Granted no harm really could occur but to each his own.
When I rebuilt mine I coated my cylinders with fresh oil to help the pistons slide into place and give some lubrication for spinning by hand and first start-up/break in.
 
I ended up picking it up. We redid the timing and then all it needed was a good ecu, which a local guy with a couple dsm's had one for $120. It runs strong, the only major thing I'm worried about is that it is ridiculously loud.
