Here's the link. I was wondering what you guys thought it would take to fix the first gear problem. I emailed him and he said either a shift fork or a synchro. I don't know much about trannies, so I figured I'd try to get your opinions. Thanks.

92 TSI

Based on the description, I'd agree on his diagnosis.

That car looks like it's a great deal if the engine is good (rebuilt 10k miles ago?) and the car is in as good a condition as it looks like it is from the pic.

$400-500 in labor plus parts would be a good assumption for the transmission to be reconditioned if you can pull it yourself, otherwise $600-900 plus parts if you have a shop pull it and rebuild it.

Those prices might be a bit high, but that's what I was quoted for the same type of problem on my previous 90 AWD.

So is this the one I should go for if it is in good shape besides the tranny problem? I mean if the compression checks out ok and everything else is seemingly good? I've been looking for a really long time for a 92 AWD 6 bolt in good shape that is cheap.

Just recieved a response. Compression is 145 across the board, and the timing belt was changed about 10k miles ago or less. Should i go for it?
