im looking at getting a ported exhaust manifold tapped for EGT or a tubular manifold that i can tap for EGT. is one manifold better than the other? what should i get?

Depends. What kind of turbo will you be running?? Your HP range plans?? You can get a SBR cast manifold already drilled for a EGT, and even can be drilled or later drilled out for an external wastegate if you opt for one of those later on.

A ported cast manifold would probably be better if it's a daily driver. Tubulars don't have as long a life. SBR's cast manifold outflows the Evo III manifold and is way cheaper than a tubular manifold. Tubulars also seem to have a problem with holding the weight of the turbo and all.

Tubular is more for strip use. The constant heating and cooling of daily driving isn't good for it. No matter how good quality it is, it still isn't very good for them. I would get the ported SBR manifold. Leave's lots of options open to for external gating later too.

If its a daily drive than go cast, the SBR manifold is a great option. If its a strip car than go tubular. The tubular manifolds seem to crack a lot after a lot of use. Plus the weight of the turbo, 02 housing, and downpipe seem to be to much and causes the tubular to crack. Ive seen someone go through 3 tubulars in one year.

I have had a tubular on my car for over a year , though I added reinforcments to it and hit the welds over to make sure it would last , and not the first issue. But really , for the $$$ involved , a ported 2G or SBR would have been the way to go , and for sure it will/should last longer.

Yea my brother had a tubular on his daily driver, and that thing gets red hot, go ported

Even a cast manifold will glow red. It really will happen after driving on the highway for awhile. I thought is was a problem but i found out it happens sometimes. Also my ported SBR manifold helped out a lot in spool time.

ok so that pretty much answers my question. i do have a big 16g turbo, but this is also pretty much a daily driver. so ill look at getting a SBR cast manifold ported and tapped for egt.

I am going against all of you,LOL i say go with the tublar, sbr new cast ported is 350 and their tublar is 488, thats only $138 difference for better spool up and better looks and i know couple people who have them for a DD and they dont crack, not saying it wont i just think its overrated, my buddy bought a cheap tublar manifold for his integra for 100 bucks and been 2 years and nothen..plus they offer a warrenty, just my .02

Hmm, I don't know of anyone who noticed a more speedy spool. Quite the opposite in fact: a slower spool, but an increase in overall flow (VE) and horsepower.

I did notice a faster spool , about 400-500 rpm faster.
BUT I went from an unported 1G manifold to tubular manifold , I would have to slap on a 2G ported to make a fair evaluation.

Yes you will.

i have one more question. is a sbr ported exhaust mani diff than just a ported exhaust mani? whats the sbr stand for? also, whats a good size to port to? how do u do it?

As stated above you can flow more then enough air with a ported evo3 or sbr mani. Pina has evo manis for 160 now i think. Atleast mine was like 3 weeks ago. Give them a call and order on and port the collector yourself, youll notice a big difference in spool. I did. :thumb:
