Alright, I've got this tubular manifold. I ordered it out of impulse and it was only $100. I tried to put it on and the main thing that feels weird is that i have to push the turbo forward a good 2 inches or so and I can feel the tension that puts on well.. everything. I'm mostly concerned about the oil lines. I'm not sure even if the whole unit can withstand being pushed forward that much, or if I'm just being too cautious. I'd just like to try it out to see if I get a different sound and if the turbo will spool any different. I'm not sure if I want a tubular manifold or just the FP stock-style manifold. Opinions are nice, and I know the manifold will probably break if I put it on, but I'm just experimenting.

Even a cheap item shouldn't be out by that much. 2" position movement is to much in my opinion. You'll probably find the wall's are to thin and you'll end up with fine cracks in it. So any performance gain will be negligible...

Better off using a stock mani before using something cheap like that which could destroy your car and compromise your safety! A good tubular manifold will cost more than a measily 100.00.

how exactly is this exhaust manifold going to destroy his car and compromise his safety, again?

Found myself wondering the same thing. If you find yourself worried that it will kink the oil feed or drain, best listen to your gut. Unless you have a spare snail on hand

Thanks for the input and respecting the fact that I got it mostly for experimental reasons LOL. Wouldn't see how anything could go THAT wrong with the manifold. If it breaks, there's plenty of other stuff holding the turbo on. I'll toss it on when I get a new turbo and stuff. I'll use the ebay manifold and old turbo till it breaks.

It's not going to hurt anything to try it. There is a guy here that just buys those cheap eBay tubular manifolds, welds a couple braces between the flanges, wraps it, and runs it until it cracks... Then he just tosses it and does it again. They seem to be good for a few years here, even with heat wrap, when braced a little. I think the main thing that causes those things to crack so often is the flex downward from the weight of the turbo and pipe when you hit a bump. Most cars with larger custom exhausts don't bolt the down pipe to that tab on the block the stock pipe bolts to for support either. That's an extra bit of stress on it... It's not super thick tubing, so take that weight into account, then you heat it up red hot, then jolt it. Yea, it is going to crack. Just adding a bit of strap steel between the arch of the tubes to support the flange to the turbo helps prevent that from occuring, and if you have one, it's worth the time to add it on.

The manifold you bought brings the turbo further from the block to eliminate clearence issues for when a "bigger" turbo is installed.. You usually need to extend/ redo the coolent turbo/ oil return line"s when a manifold like the one you have is installed..:thumb:
