Pops out of 4th gear

Story behind why it does it:

My friend and I were going down route 30, he was driving. He was currently in 4th gear, about 5k rpms, and decided to downshift to get going. Well, he MADE it go into third and completely revved the shit out of my engine. Ever since that, my car pops out of 4th gear. It shifts perfectly, just won't stay in 4th. It doesnt pop all the way out into neutral either.

What would the problem be?

my first does that the guy told me that he put new first gear syncros in it and that its a shift linkage problem but i doubth thats your problem I havnt gotten a chance to try and fix it yet.
