I plugged the hole to the IM that the PCV valve used to go into, to prevent boost leaks / vacuum leaks. I'm just wondering if this is alright or if it will hurt in the long run? Should I just get a good PCV valve and not plug it?

OMG Dont plug it,, a pcv valve is a positive crankcase ventalator, you plug it and it wont VENT . They are like 10 bucks, just buy one bud.

It's only plugged on the IM end of it, I have a filter over the end on the valve cover.

Is it fine just to put a filter over that or leave it vented to the atmosphere ??? (sorry all you enviromentalists)

It vents from the valve cover end right?

Ok im with you now, there is already a vent on your valve cover for your pvc valve, so hook it up to your im and pvc valve and put your filter over the VENT on your valve cover. And I have a test pipe in, screw the enviro guys.

The crankcase fumes have to be pulled out. A filter on the inlet side (intake pipe -not manifold- side) is ok but you may get oil leakage in the event that there's alot of pressure in the crankcase AND you're boosting (closes PCV check valve).

If you block the PCV valve side and only have a filter on the other side there is no driving force to POSITIVELY vent the crankcase. Atmospheric venting isn't enough to pull flamable fumes and moisture out of there. Hooking it up to vacuum is the only manor to achieve proper cleansing of the crankcase.

Note... none of that should have been interpretted as tree-hugging/save the wales/free tibet type talk. It's about promoting proper modifications that ultimately WON'T lead to your engine gumming up with sludge and promoting oil leaks which is exactly what happens with a clogged/blocked PCV system.
