piston rings

hey all i got me some pistons rings for my ross pistons. I can't seem to get the oil ring on the piston tho. you know the one like _/-\_/-\_ or whatever. it will only go in lop sided. what am I doing wrong? am i suppose to be using a ring installer?

No, you don't need a ring installer.

What exactly do you mean by "lop sided"? Can you show us with a picture?

You are installing them correctly, right? Oil ring in, then the oil ring rails, right?

yes oil ring first...i haven't even got the rails yet cause the oil ring won't go in. I'm at a buddy's house right now but when i go home I'll take some pictures. but basically the ring won't fit into the groove....

So, what was the problem?

the guy who sold me the piston on here told me they were standard size ross pistons that he used for a season. Turns out they're .020 over wiseco pistons.....
