piston ring size

ok so i need to change my piston rings. to find out what kind of rings i need do i have to find out the diameter of the bore and the piston. and subtract the bore size from the piston size. could someone help with this.

You just measure your bore. 85mm = standard, 85.5 = 20 over.

Your going to need some T gauges (snap gauges) and a micrometer to measure this clearance accurately

You're thinking of another measurement, piston to wall clearance. Off the top of my head I think that clearance should be around .0012 to .0020. You'll need an inside and outside micrometer to measure that.

ok so i so i got some numbers. The piston is 85.00 mm and my bore is 84.50 mm. Dont know tho any help

Well that's impossible, but it sounds like you have a standard 85mm bore... so get standard rings.

Are you measuring with calipers? If so your not going to get a proper reading. I can see how measuring with calipers would give you those kind of numbers.

Yeah you have to use a micrometer. Below is a link to what you need.
Like stated above,you will also need T-gauges with the mic to be measuring proper clearances. They can be a little expensive for a nice set. You can also just let a machine shop help you.
