piston oil ring help

OK, probably a simple question to most of you but i did not get instructions with my ring kit and i want to make certain that I am doing this right. ok- for the oil ring there is 3 actual rings. 2 are flat and the middle one is a wavy spacer. anyways. on the middle wavy spacer where the two ends meet to make a complete circle are the ends supposed to face up like this _/\_ or down like this -\/- , or does it not matter. sorry for the bad diagram but I think you guys will get what I am trying to say.

Down on every engine i have built, also do not forget you put the rings in a triangle configuration. Hope i helped

alright, thanks just wanted to double check because I wasn't aware that it even made a difference.
