Pinstripery and Paint

Well I'm not sure I see the difference between this and the white cars with black hoods... either way it looks like a scrapyard replacement... I know the inverse most people seem to like better though.

However I indeed spent half of the day just deciding whether or not to try it because I thought it might look that way. But see the original paint isn't that great, the hood had heat cracks in the paint and a bunch of oxidation, so maybe it looks better to me like this just for that reason... the white looks so much cleaner and nicer than the old black paint.

But, I'm going to add some artwork to the hood eventually, some minimalist patterning, so it might look like it belongs on the car when that's done. We'll see.

I agree with 95gts16g! The hood looks out of place. I think the big difference between this and the ones with the black hood is usually the HOOD color continues on the ROOF and back. So it has that TWO TONED look.

This just looks like it was stuck on there.

I do like the pin striping though. Did you put some on the back as well under the lights to round it out?? Maybe to complete the look paint your calipers red as well. :)

I thought about putting red under the tail light and actually mocked it up, but I thought it might have been too much, given the giant red tail light I was cautious to get too stripe-happy... I'll give it a try though and see. The calipers are a good idea, too.

I THOUGHT about maybe painting my roof and back hatch white as well for the two-tone, but I'm going to give that a LOT of thought because It's more of a bi*** to do and fix than the hood... though since I'm eventually painting the whole car, maybe this summer, I guess now's the time to experiment with schemes.

BTW thanks for all the responses. Didn't expect this much feedback.

don't listen to any of the guys here.....do what you like...its your car....maybe what your doing is a lil over kill and thats something that most honda kids will do but IMO car looks ok id prob get rid of the white hood tho... jz primer the whole car black or white ..... esp with the red accents.... it'll look BadA##

Then he shouldn't have came here asking our opinion:rolleyes:

Personally I think it looks stupid. I don't see the point is mismatching parts. I understand leaving CF unpainted but I don't get ANYONE who paints their hood black. It started off (mostly) so people could try to make it "look" like they have a CF hood when they do.

As far as the pin-stripping I think it looks terrible, it does not go with the car or even color at all.

Plus those head lights look extremely ricer. I'm sure if this was a Honda forum everyone would think they are amazing. But what really does not suprise me is half the people who think this crap is cool is NT guys. Not saying it's everyone, I'm just saying most NT guys I have met have only bought the cars for its looks, then destroyed the good looks it had, then realized their car was slow and sold it to buy something else that was slower. You really have no idea how many 2g Eclipses I've seen bought then riced then sold so someone could buy a civic "hatch" that was "clean" then do the same crap to that car.

It's crap like this that makes our community look like a joke to everyone who has no clue there are actually fast models of our cars.:toobad:

If you're going to cry about my opinion after asking for it, all I can say for next time is... don't.

I guess this is turning into partially my 'hello forum' thread, I am new here anyhow.

If you're going to cry about my opinion after asking for it, all I can say for next time is... don't.

Nah, I don't really get upset over anyone's opinion.

But if it will improve my personal image, I'm not a car-farmer. In the last 6 years (since I've started driving) I've owned 3 cars, all of which I still have. 2 classic VWs and this Eclipse. I've wanted an Eclipse for like 5 years now, and finally I have the money and time to do it. So while you guys feel I'm 'ricing' my car some, I don't plan on swapping it out for a Honda or running it into the ground. I'm really trying to not get sucked into bodykits that I'll never actually go fast enough to take advantage of or do something radical to the car that I can't easily undo. I know guys who car-hop every 6 months and get easily bored, as well as the guys who will strap anything to their car so long as it's shiny and comes with streetglow stickers. :) I try not to do that, I like to be loyal enough to my cars and never sold one. I just really thought my all black car could use some color.

In fact I bought those headlights specifically because I saw 3 other cars on this site with them and thought they looked really nice. Lotsa diversity amongst you guys I guess. I'm really into mech/tech stuff, so anything that's a testament to recent car tech and/or style (LED bulbs, halo/projectors, digital gauges and computer-related shit) really catches my eye and reflects my attitude. Plus the freshness of modern cars amongs my classic VW background motivates this.

Also, the car is indeed a n/t, 1999 gs. Around here, turbo cars cost like $4k-6k and are a lot more expensive to rebuild/maintain as far as I've read, and most of the time I'll just be driving around town. I picked up my car for $1000, and got the engine replaced for $1300, so I figure $2300 for a 99 with a new engine isn't bad at all. Does need a little bodywork in some places but most of it's small dings that can be pulled or bondo'd and repainted. Interior's great, everything works. Perfect car to keep me busy and learn on, especially on a budget. If I had $6k laying around I would have loved to pick up a GSX. Maybe someday. The only car that I would consider buying these days besides a 2g eclipse would be a 350z, but they're way outta my price range ATM... so at this point I'm in it for the long haul.

I'll work this style shit out eventually.

Nothing wrong with being different. Just try to at least make it look good.

Just throwing this out there :idontknow:

You know they make a red carbon fiber hood? I've seen some somewhere and I'm not sure how goofy/good that would look. Maybe one of the photoshop gurus can give it a try. But please don't give your black car a white stripe up the middle (i.e. hood, roof, and hatch). Then it really will look like a skunk. :\

P.S. - I'm none too fond of folks bashing the 2g non-turbos. They're still eclipse's and talons damnit. They just don't go as fast. :) But that leaves more room for us to be pretty :D

i wouldnt do just the hood camo....wither go all the way, or dont go at all.

and gloss>flat on camo.

let me start by saying to each his own-thats what life is all about. be unique, stand out, dont become a copy of someone else. i like the black and red theme. . .carry it through though. in my opinion, if you went back to a black hood and added some carbon fiber accents, like maybe a hood with red hood latches. i would black out the head/tailights and tint the windows dark. maybe go with some red interior pieces and red carbon fiber would look amazing. there is a place that makes 3-d red cabon fiber vinyl and you could get creative with that. i know all this stuff takes money, not saying you dont have the money just simply saying that no one has an unlimited amount. just my input hope its sparks some creativity.

Here is an idea, if it is done right it can look amazing! I have seen failed attempts though and they were horrible. If you do this please get a lot of pictures. It could be something different than any other eclipse.

That's completely B.A.:hellyeah:

On another note, the red carbon fiber hoods that I have seen have been nothing more than a carbon fiber hood painted with almost an opaque candy paint.
