physical difference between 6 and 7 bolt blocks

im tryin to figure out if i have a 6 or 7 bolt bare block and i dont know what to look for please help pic would be great

But 7-bolt turbo blocks have oil jets as well, do they not?

Seeing as not all blocks are turbo blocks, there are two things I would look at. First is the VIN on the flywheel side of the block. The 10th digit will tell you the year and, so long as it isn't N, it will tell you what you need to know. Early models ('90-'91) had the 6-bolt; later models ('93-'99) had the 7-bolt. Remember that '92 was the year the "switch" occurred.

Here's the breakdown for that 10th digit:
L - 1990
M - 1991
N - 1992
P - 1993
R - 1994
S - 1995
T - 1996
V - 1997
W - 1998
Y - 1999

If it happens to be a '92, check which size bolt fits the holes for the head bolts: M12 means it is a 6-bolt; M11 means it is a 7-bolt.

There's also the difference with the main caps. A 6-bolt runs 3 caps, two bridged doubles and one single. A 2G 7-bolt uses a single main girdle.

Unless I am completely mistaken, a 1G 7-bolt block will have oil squirters very similar to the 6-bolt block. The 2G has very different jets that are housed in the block, not bolted down like a 1G. I suggest you look at something else to confirm the block you have.
