would retarding the timing a bit on the cas create less phantom knock or cause it to pk more? im dealing with a shitty phantom knock problem that came out of nowhere and fixed every possible cause.

If it's truly pk, then retarding timing will not get rid of it, however if you find out that retarding timing reduces pk, then most likely you have real knock. Good luck.

put a few gallons of race gas in it and see if it eliminates the knock if not then you know you got phantom knock.
