PCV System, will this work??

Ive searched lots of threads on the pcv system, so far to me the 2 catch can system with a check valve is the one im aiming for. now i just have a question on that one, insted of keeping the stock pcv vavle, why not just eliminate it?? would this work by just putting an open nipple fitting and just putting a check valve inline? why keep the pcv valve if there is a check valve in there??

almost.... insted of having the pcv valve fitting vented....have the side one vented to either a vented catch can with 1 inlet or just to the ground. and have the pcv valve fitting attached to that line u have at the bottom of the catch can

its the same thing basicly.... just i would rather see the pcv valve fitting conected to the catch can rather then the side fitting

also if they are running speed density or have a gm maf sensor running in blow through... they could still have it conected to the intercooler piping! as long as its BEFORE the sensor metering the air and as long as there is a check valve to prevent a boost leak and air pressurizing in the crank case....not too good to have oily/fumes on the sensor tho, but speed density would not be as much as a problem since there is no maf and you can always hook up the map sensor facing up so that if it catches anything it will drip down
 
exactly, or you can leave the pcv valve instead of a straight through nipple and that way your pcv valve will stay in good shape.... just in case your check valve fails...its a good back up.

just keep in mind...you will not have any crank case breathing under boost !!
 
THATS WHAT I NEED! i need all the pressure relief i can get under boost AND vacuum
If you want good crankcase evacuation under all conditions (boost and vacuum), then you need to do it like in post #1.

IMO, evacuation under boost of more important than under vacuum. But both is great too. :)
 
it does but the intake pipe has no nipple so im just running a breather filter on the VC. im going SD soon and i want that clean look in the engine bay yknow LOL :D so i figured loose the intake pipe. i still want all the crankcase ventilation i can get tho. am i gonna have to sacrifice vacuum ventilation for boost? if so, is it a whole lot or something i can live with? i mean im currently running with just the little breather and its never given me any issues.
 
You can put it on the intercooler piping but just make sure you have 1or 2 check valves to make sure you Dont throw some boost in your crankcase LOL. That would be ugly,also if you do have an intake pipe, it's better to put a nipple on there since your intake pipe will never see boost,only vacuum. You asked me a way to do it without an intake pipe. That would be the way. But I dont recommend you take your intake pipe off,run an air filter,save your turbo from crap getting into it. Or take it off only at the track. And now that I think of it, your better off just hooking up to the intake manifold for your pcv system,just add an extra line,like if u had 2 pcv valve. But remember this.... Your intake pipe will ALWAYS see vacuum therefore it's an awesome place to hook up a line or 2 for your pcv system. It's the only way to suck out the pressure while under boost! Important if you ask me
 
This is what I run! :thumb:

When I was running multiple check valves incl. an inline filter[like above] I would get oil leaking out the oil cap. So now I just keep the pcv and check valve, and a sealed can with no filters or valves on the breather side.

For whatever reason, I started pushing oil out the top once I replaced my inline filter a few months ago. Thinking it was just overly restrictive I punched a hole through the filtering medium so that air could more easily flow. No change. Clearly, I was pinching off the airways too much with "all that gear" I had installed. Runs great now though but I am suspicious that my catch can does't seem to fill up very fast. In 3mo. It's about 1/8in. full.

After that experience I wonder a little bit about having 2 check valves that need to be forced open by the air coming out the breather port.
