So, I bought my first Eclipse ever a few weeks ago and I bought it without the inner and outer door handles on the pass side. Thanks to the awesome thread about the outer door handle I got everything on and it all worked great for a few days and now all the sudden it won't open again from the inside or the outside... I can hear the lever moving inside but the door won't budge..

Any suggestions on how to get the door open??

Or can any of the door panel pieces be removed while the door is shut so maybe I can get it open that way??

Any suggestions would be awesome!!

Might be a pain to get too.. but you can get the little bezel that goes around the handle off without the door being open. That could get you some access to the levers and see if you can tug at them to try to get the latch to let go manually. Sometimes the power locks won't move them enough. Sounds like the latch itself might be bad.

Or... you might have not gotten the levers back in the clips all the way, and it may have worked it way out.

I tried that already... Ugh, I think the whole actual latch inside is bad, yippee!!

Did you get an ebay door handle? This is common with the cheaper door handles (not sure about the actual OEM as a comparison shows little difference between the two), but it is really easy to fix.

Pull the door panel off and look at the latch inside the door as you pull on the OUTSIDE door handle. There's a little fork shaped rod that will move DOWN into the actuator to open the door. The problem is the new handles don't have enough lift to move that lever down enough to actuate the locks. Simple fix- take a wire (I always use clothshangers as I've had to do this too many times to count), cut a small length, put it inbetween the fork and twist it around the fork like a twist-tie so that it can't fall out. Then just make sure it won't hit the window as you roll it up or down. Done!

What it does is essentially shorten the distance that forked rod has to travel into the actuator, so you don't have to pull the handle as far. The thicker the rod you use, the less you have to pull the handle up. I've done this on a handful of 2g door handles and haven't had a single handle snap off since I put the rod in. Hope that helps, PM me since I probably won't see this thread again if you need more info on it. I really should just make a tech article...

Oh yeah good idea! I'll try that. I've heard of putting a 10mm bolt and nut through that little fork but its almost too much and I couldn't get the rod to clip to the handle so I just said F it LOL.. Would that be why the door handle from the inside isn't working either... I bought both inner and outer handles from ebay..

I just did the bolt through the fork with a little metal clip the other day. Door works 100% of the time. For some reason, that fork stretches out or something, but if you have a younger brother/cousin/dog with a little wrist, get him to put the clip and bolt on there, it works good. Also, make sure the bolt isn't SUPER long, or else it pushes against the door frame and causes problems
