I have pretty much made up my mind but thought I would get opinions before pulling the trigger.

My car is finally ready for paint and I am trying to decide if I should repaint it red or go with a new color.
I have never really liked red but I really like dark metallic grey (gun metal) cars.

I pulled the 2ga wing off and I found a shop that is going to weld and fiberglass the holes, pull a couple minor door dings, sand, paint and shoot a clear coat over the top all for $1,400.00. That includes door jams and hatch jam.

They will do any factory color for this price.

I like the cyber grey chevy color and think it would look killer on a wingless 2g.

what do you guys think?

you better do it for 1400. shit. I just finished pricing that all out my self. that would be my price in materials alone... (well materials, gun, tips, paint, primer, clear, masking stuff, bodyfiller/glass sanding stuff...) I was looking at that color too, since my car is a sort of factory gray, it wouldn't change too much.

That is a good price for all that.
I am also a fan of the dark metallic grey color, specially on a 2g eclipse. In my opinion your car will look great man.

the body is really straight, three paint shops all said $100.00 for body work, minus filling holes from the wing.
I thought $1,400 with a metallic and clear coat was pretty good. It is double my budget, but such is life.

love the grey, i really want to paint my 2g a good gun metal/carbon grey, then get a carbon fiber hood/hatch. will look so sexxxy.

If the car is originally red, then when you pop the hood, it will not look good. If you want to do a full color swap, do it right. Have them price out painting the bay, They can tape it off decently and airbrush around the tight areas to make it look good.

Just my opinion. Id go factory color or full color swap.

I have been struggling with that very thought. To do it correctly would take more time (this is my dd) and more money. The $1,400 is already more than I wanted to spend.
They are going to paint the door jams and under the rear hatch, but not the engine bay. The hood is new and primer black, so at least the underside of the hood wont be red.
I was think I could tape that all off myself later and rattle can the engine bay black like the underside of the hood.

I will see how much extra to do the bay just to know.

this is the car as it sits now.

Car looks great in red. Red is one of the worst original colors to hide. It sticks out like a sore thumb. If it was black, id say go for it. Red looks great to me . Just my opinion

Ps. your definately going to want to get rid of those wheels...

and sell them to me

just to be clear, do you mean hard to hide as in near edges or trim if they miss some it will show the red, or hard to hide as in the base color may show through (doubt that)?

Here are my two opinions if you stray from the R87 (Radiant Fire Red) DSM paint, I think we spoke about them last time I was over?

Flame Red from Dodge

Guards Red from Porsche

The black hood underside doesn't look bad with the red, you may consider just leaving it...

If you do decide to paint the car gray you should do what Porsche did with their GT3 RS, it's paint is a combination of their Grey Black/Guards Red and it looks good. I'm not saying to make the wheels red, however, if you leave the engine bay red you could do some red exterior like the mirrors to break things up a bit?

Quick PS of your car with a fresh coat of R87 paint (the picture looks a lot better if you click on it to enlarge). :rocks:

I looked into painting my car and the prices varied from $3500-$5000. Make sure it is not a MAACO job they are doing for $1400. Go with the color you like, I also recommend a color that is different than others.
