Thought I would post some pics of my progress so far. I will be primering it for the next week, then wet-sanding, then painting...still haven't decided on a color, but that black is growing on me.
I'll post more as I go.

I seen this car in craiglist classifieds, how much did you end of giving for it, if you don't mind me asking? What ever you do, do not paint the roof the same color as the body, I made that mistake years ago, looked like shit. I would also do an exotic color. I should've done a metalic sunset orange, or a dark metalic reptile green. An electric blue would be nice, your colors are limited now though since you went with black primer unless you spray a gray sealer primer over that.

Wow, good job on the progress :) I have to ask what brand/ where did you get that intercooler from?

I can't find anything on it, some other members here speculated it could be Buschur or Slowboy/Kinetic.

Small world!! Yes, it was on craigslist. I ended up trading a 69 Gp for it. The Talon had some serious issues with boost leak and some other crap that I was able to fix.
I was thinking about a metallic black. So the single color looks like sh!t, huh? That was what I was going to do. :ohdamn: It really needs a set of wheels. And some new seats.

The single colour in black is the exception - that's the only way black came on a 1gb and it looks great. May as well murder it out while you're at it. Black wheels and black tint.

Looking good, can't wait to see the finished pics.

Yeah, murdering it out was exactly what I had in mind. I love the look on all black cars. Even gto headlight covers, blacked out tails, no chrome or aluminum left.

I agree, black is the exception.

Yeah, I'll admit primer does look pretty cool. Hides everything. I'm gonna paint it though. I think black metallic it is.

Thanks Bro. I am typically a muscle car guy, I like big blocks and old cars to restore. My dd is a Dodge Charger Daytona with N20 (no not a bb but a larger car). This guy asked me if I would consider a trade and I initially blew it off as I didn't want a ricer. Then I ran it by some friends that drive Chargers and Mustangs and all spoke highly of the DSM. So I did the trade. I really like what can be made out of these little cars. I need to learn a lot more about fuel control and such though. I have a long way to go. Some of the terminology on the boards throws me.
We'll have to hook up in BG sometime and I'll buy you a beer.

I know what you mean, I was into v8s for a long time, and still have much respect for them especialy the muscle cars, nothing like good American HP. I'm a huge fan of mopar, I got hooked on dsms because I had a 5.0 stang with some goodies, well I pulled by a dsm in richmond, didn't know what it was. He revved, I didn't pay no attention to him because i thought 4 cyl..blahblah..fart can..so what, no need to race. He launched so hard, it scared the bejeezes out of me, next light I ran him and got beat by two car lengths. I was hooked ever since. We should meet up sometime, BG is a cool place, have a few beers, talk some cars..

Absolutely. I am taking vacation all next week. I'll be painting the Talon then. I'll pm you later.

Painted it this morning (Tuesday), this pic is about 8 hours later. What do you think? Still need to do the wheels (flat black), tint the windows, and black out the headlights and tails. Murder Inc.

By the way, the color is a 2007 BMW, Black Sapphire Effect paint code.

Thanks, the "paint booth" worked out great. Painting in cold weather posed some difficulties, but the propane heater helped.

Finally got to drive it today. Finished the wheels and reattached the bumper. Needs a wash though.

im looking to spray my 1ga silver or dark gray, unsure yet but hey real good job on progress man car looks like its coming along great, im curious is it really as big of a pain as people say to spray a car?

looks great, but be careful with the car if there is salt on the roads. i do not know if it is snowing there, i got like 6 inches already, but the salt will leave little rings on the car . after you wash it , then you will see them. i say this cause i see that you painted it on tuesday, and you do not have a paint booth to heat the car up so that the paint bakes

The only thing I was worried about was was all the stuff I read about how hard it was to paint the engine compartment. That was actually fairly easy to me. There was a lot of truth though to the stuff about preparation makes the paint job. Spend time sanding, and fixing any imperfections because they'll show good after fresh paint.

Thanks, I actually painted the car on December 1st, it had been baking in my garage at about 80* for a couple of weeks. It is back in the garage now because I need to replace the clutch. Not one thing it's another. LOL

I'm jealous, the job you did is really impressive. Metallic black was a good choice. It's really hard to resist the urge to choose it for the inevitable respray of my car. Normal black just does something for me, I guess.
