I am in the process of repainting my hood and roof and possibly my front bumper. My car is black and I am wondering if I will be able to match the exact shade. Should I take it to a paint shop and have them color match the current shade of black that is on my car....OR should I just go with the factory black color.

I'm new to painting cars and need some input.

Also, if anyone has pictures (preferably black cars) of their repainted cars, please post them. If anyone has a picture of their car with only a certain portion repainted, that would be even better.

Using the factory paint code on a black car usually matches. The main thing is the newly painted parts will have fresh clearcoat which is going to make them look much better. The main colors that don't match are white, silver, and gold.

Look on the passenger side firewall under the hood and there should be a silver nameplate that will have it on there.

you may wish to have the rest of the car fully clayed & buffed right after the repaint so that panels are as clean & shiny as possible. that will help out somewhat since the new clear coat will be very, well... NEW! not to mention shiny. hopefully then your existing paint will be as glossy as the new paint then.

also, if you wetsand & buff the repainted panels, it's usually good to wait a few weeks to a month or so after the paintjob. i think everything will match just fine then. i definetely reccommend using the factory paint code like mentioned above
