I dont want to mimic Carbon Fiber or anything like that.
The clear coat is coming off, there is a huge dent, and the entire hood has been keyed:ohdamn:
to me its an eye sore.
Ive seen the other posts and everybody says not to try it.
Does anybody have a red 1g with black hood?

This is the only one I could find of mine. Had an incident with the hood flying up on me, so I pulled this hood from my laser as a temporary. Its a flat black, basically chalkboard. At least, that's what I used it for. LOL
Just bought the laser for a project, but started turning into a parts car. :p

Just got one off of my phone. Don't really have any other angles, but flat black really doesn't look bad at all on it. A lot of people said they liked it better than my origianl red hood. I'm more partial to the clean red hood though.

That hood looks like a replcement part with a primerd surface. If left outside for 2 or more years, it will start rusting. The e coat primer is very thin and wont hold up if other products are not applied.

If you do paint it black clear it so it wont be a waste of a paint job, even a cheap one, it will look worse over time when the paint fades.

If it were me, I would just repaint it white myself to match the car. It may not look perfect in the end, but it won't cost much more and you obviously aren't trying to make your car a show car so who cares?

+1 for adding the clear. I spray bombed my s13 with semi gloss black then wetsanded it with a sos pad to even out the paint. It looked really good ..... for 6 months and then it started to fade and look like s**t. Then again im in Okinawa.... it rains alot here.
