If a guy were to take his compressor housing off his turbo, sand it smooth, and have it painted/ anodized would it cause any problems?

thanks!

J

You must use a VERY heat resistance paint if you were to do this. Bonehead Performance does high temp powdercoating to their comp covers, but using a traditional autozone type paint will not stand up to the heat a turbo puts off. You're better off polishing it or having a place like BHP powdercoat it for you with their special "ingredients".

Some coatings can add a couple thousands to the material... might want to check blade/housing tolerances before you go changing stuff.

I HIGHLY doubt they will spray in the inlet! WTF

No we do not coat inside the housings at all. We have done many many turbo housings before with no problems. If you have any questions let me know. 215-295-4350

I didn't know Bonehead Performance was a vendor. :thumb: They do good stuff, I got my brake bracket powdercoated in anodized blue from them and it looks awesome! I still have to get my battery bracket and valve cover done.

Question: If a valve cover can be powercoated in a non-high temp color (for example anodized blue), why does the compressor housing need to have high temp paint?

Because when the exhaust gasses dump into the comp housing they are still burning hot if not on fire. Yea not much more you can say about that.

I sure hope my exhaust gases arent dumping into my compressor housing.

Yup. I don't see why a compressor housing would need high temp paint. It possibly can't get hotter than a valve cover.

LMFAOROFL BAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!

Umm....I think your turbo has a problem dude...

You have to remember what your comp cover is attached to, the turbine housing. Now think about how hot this gets & think about heat transfer. Yes a comp cover will get alot hotter then a valve cover.

The backing plate gets a bit warmer, but the rest of the compressor housing doesn't get as bad as you would think. It does have alot of air going through it to cool it, especially when its not making boost and therefor no adiabatic/friction heating. It probably does heat up quite a bit when the car is shut off due to the proximity to the ex manifold and turbine housing.
