Why is this logger cable owning me? I have re made it 3 times and it wont work. I figure it shouldnt be that hard to make one. I am trying to log with a laptop so I switched pins 2 and 3 so the dioed is on pin 3 and the resistor is a 10k from radio shack. Here are the pics. I just used some extra plugs on the ends for testing. Does everything look right?

You have the pins on the serial connector backwards.
I assume you are using a female connector.
You are connected to pins 1,3 and 4.
Shound be pins 2,3 and 5.

Is the diode the right way? They are directional you know.

his diode was installed correct, the anode needs to be more positive than the cathode in order for them to conduct ;)

unless its a zener diode, than you just might want to make sure its in 'backwards' :)
