Last night my sons car overheated he said . Its a 1999 gst auto all stock ive been messing with it today and fans come on with ac on but dont when car is sitting idle with ac off ? Im gonna do full flush replace theromstat and cap just for piece of mind. Ive looked threw the fuses all good could it be low speed relay ? Or a fan switch of some sorts im just trying find out what all to look for and check. Ive done some searches but limited on that being new. Any help be greatly appreceited

Ok i didnt know fans didnt kick on tell 210 ? Fans work but still getting hot ...... gonna pull rad and flush it replace thermo and cap hoses , Really hoping it isnt a head gasket !!! Guess could be waterpump but nothing is leaking when i pulled cap and let car idle or even idle it up fluid was going down like it wasnt being circulated ..... Could it be safe to say water pump is taking a dump ????

UPDATE ... fluid was luke warm when i drained it but upper rad hose seem very hot still car been setting 45 min cooling. ? Hoping just a bad thermostat ?

Sounds like a bad thermostat.
As a band aid if you're still getting hot, you can wire both fans together (jump the relays at the fuse box).
You should still find out why it's broken, but that'll keep you running while you do.

+2 on the thermostat..Its a cheap fix and takes maybe 5 minutes to change..After chaging let your car idle for 20+ minutes and see if the fan turns on..Thats a great way to find out in the thermostat works..

Thanx for the replys guys !! New themostat , cap , hoses and pulled rad flushed it and shes running back to normal again so hope that was it !!
