I was going to order my evo 3 16g from forcedperformance.net for a few reasons:

1. cheapest price
2. they port/clip
3. cheap price for install kit

until a friend told me that evo 3 16g can differ..is this true? i mean other than the knock off GT or the chinese ones with the blue cap...can it be a geunine mhi evo 3 16g turbo but be rated at a different hp from another geunine mhi evo 3 16g? for example buying it from slowboy vs forced performance.

I ordered mine from extremepsi.com, it was cheaper than both the MHI and the China GT from turbochargers.com.

Extreme PSI MHI E16G price = $529 shipped
Turbochargers.com MHI E16G price = $492 shipped

Turbochargers FTW

I got my E316G from turbochargers.com. Came fast works great. I'm only running 8 lbs on a 1G manifold and a 3" turboback with ported O2 housing. (Still need to upgrade my fuel system but the 14b that was on there blew...) The exhaust housing is unported but I do not creep. I figure that may change when I upgrade the EM, but right now I have no problems.

8lbs thats a little low. Someone being overly safe?...:D

I too have the EVO GT bought from turbochargers.com. I cant complain, fast delivery nothing missing. I was sceptical about the GT because of all the bashing, but im damn happy i bought it. im running 23lbs. untuned. I dont have money for dyno pulls and highway pulls in third day take all night.!!! TC.com prices were also the best i found!! good luck

No tuning and 23psi. :nono:
I dont know about that.
However i would like to know once youve had the turbo for a few thousand miles if its still working well. I went with the MHI.

I just read the whole law suit on the GT version and it is just messed up what SBR did if thats all true. Anyway after reading that you cant just pick MHI or GT, because it seems the GT is a Nicer MHI EVO III. The widend Turbine inlet diameter gives the responce of a port and the reliability of a virgin housing. Not to mention...you could now port the widend housing. Then theres the materials like they stated...better stuff and more of it..seem cool to me. Then a standard 34mm flapper where as a port and WG upgrade is usually another 200 anywhere else. I was considering 20G but seeing as that about the same price as a new EVO III GT or MHI Ill be rethinking my decision. I may have to call turbochargers and see what kind of warranty they offer or will offer..maybe get something in writing. What do you guys this?

OK well im not totally untuned. I have about 5 highway pulls, but i know i can tune some more and i do have a safc and a logger.I usually have to go out at like 1 am and thats a PITA. My car only has 92k so its holding good. I have about 3k on the turbo, i dont get to abuse it too much ### my clutch slips every now and then.

No kidding! I'm still bringing the car back, so I want to take my time. This car has had every possible corner cut so I don't trust much on her. And the stock wastegate actuator opens at 8 lbs. The good news is no creep even at 8 lbs, but that does translate to an anemic 135 awhp at 5280 or so feet. The plan is to finish installing some gauges this weekend and raise the boost to 10-12 lbs...

Well iv'e read about the SBR thing and i think they just have a problem with turbochargers.com as well. IMO i would still only get the MHI just because its Mitsubishi made and i trust that. As for the warranty i think its 1 year or some amount of mileage. Id have to check my paperwork. I'd go with the MHI. Also for under 500 shipped you cant beat the price! :thumb:

So what the heck is the difference between the Evo 3 16 G, and the Evo3 Big 16 G? Which spools quicker? Or are they the same, and one is just newer.

Same turbo. The big 16g is a variation to the Evo III 16g. The Evo III 16g spools faster, is lighter, and has more potential. The MHI EvoIII is the one im referring to by the way. The EvoIII 16g GT is a non Mitsubishi made turbo thats a replica of the MHI EvoII with porting and bigger WG flapper.

Yes, the GT turbo has a lot of things that the original MHI doesn't. BUT the MHI turbo has been proven to be a maker of reliable turbos. I'm not saying that the GT is not reliable, just that the MHI has a good and long record of being, well, reliable. You also hear people on the board saying their GT turbo failed, not that many people say that their MHI turbo failed. Once a product gets a bad name, it is hard to climb back up from it. If you want to get the GT, this would be the best bang for the buck - http://www.turbochargers.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=21_30&products_id=186

sorry no pics of my MHI from FP.

Never saved the pics to my computer and the link no longer works.

Yea a great deal indeed, but I have a 2G install kit ( 14B im running ) and my 2g manifold is probably all Ill need...Im the guy looking for that 330-350 whp daily. I have everything I need now accept the turbo and maybe the injectors. Ill let you guys know what I go with after I call TC.com and talk about the GT.

Please explain.

"Divider Removed - We found this PTE trick of removing the divider between the turbine outlet chamber and the Waste-gate outlet chamber works on the 16g to eliminate boost creep - $49" - www.dejonpowerhouse.com, click on Turbochargers and scroll down to Evo III 16G.

Putting on a 1.5" exhaust will cure your boost creep too, but would you really want to do that? Your "fixing" one problem at the expense of hurting the rest of the system.

When it comes to decisions like this bro, you have to just ask yourself.. is it worth the risk of me trying out something that I'm not sure of.. or staying safe and getting what I know will work. If you are looking for that TINY little increase you MAY get from the GT then I would stop with the 16g bull and get a larger turbo.

The evo3 will make you very happy.. almost every person on this forum has or had a evo316g at one point in their DSM career and upgraded because of the taste it gave them.

Good luck!

I see your point. I'm waiting for a response from Dejon on some details (if he has done any testing) on performance loss using an undivided housing. More info on this thread - http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=233737
