A different EVO3 question (oiling)

Hey guys i have a new evo 3 i am installing and i was wondering what the purpose of the band style clamp is around the center section. It can be tightened and loosened with at 10mm socket. I had a little oil leaking from the housing so i tightened it up and i was just wondering if thats the proper use for it or if i have messed it up. I cant imagine any harm coming from that but just wanted your input on whether that was what it was there for. thanks

The band-clamp around the center section holds the turbine housing on. hopefully you didn't have oil leaking from there

The oil must have been coming from the drain tube and just spattering onto the housing. is there any adverse effects to tightening/loosening that band clamp (short of the housing falling off)?

It should fit snug. It just holds the exhaust housing in place. It's not really a seal that needs to be tightened or anything.

Wipe the oil off and see where it originates from. Probably need a new gasket for the oil drain.
