opinions on the fp hta 68 on my upcoming setup

I'm building a street/ drag car for 2011 and still confused on a few thngs.. One is the turbo choice?? I'm really stuck on the fp hta 68, I'm planning on having a fast spooling turbo.. (Compression is 8.3).. My hp goals are 400-450 on e85..I've did research and I beleve this will be the turbo that will push my car to my goal, but I made this post to get people"s opinions on this turbo.. Thanks

You can push a HTA68 to that level and wring it for all it has, or you can get something a little bigger which may be easier to tune and will still get you to your goal.

You'll already be blowing $900 on what is essentially a 16G with a different compressor wheel, why not go for something a little bigger that would be more durable at high boost as well as be easier to tune?

I really want to stick to the stock appearing class, I want to prove " you can go fast without a big turbo" especially to the honda guys ..

I know fp has been proven over and over that there turbo"s are outstanding, but how is blouch turbo"s?? Same quality??

Blouch has no name with DSMers because they haven't really built affordable turbos for our cars in the past; if you want feedback on their products you'll probably have to do some reading on Subie forums.

This turbo has a better-flowing turbine housing and a clipped turbine wheel which supports more airflow than the FP DSM68HTA, and it has a cheaper price tag.

I"ll defenity look into the blouch turbo"s.. Just curious if you know the power rpm band of the stock appearing turbo"s?? I'm assuming there from 3500-7500 rpm, correct me if I'm wrong..

I've been doing a bit of research into the 68hta as well. It appears to be a very impressive turbo and if you search, there are a number of posts on here with reviews and helpful information. Additionally I would give Aniel a call at Forced Performance to get any more information you would like.

To me, without having any experience with this particular turbo, it sounds like is the best "stock appearing" turbo without going to a different hot side or T3/T4 setup. It seems to be extremely efficient within the "street" psi range. I think that's somewhere to like 27-28psi. After that, it runs out of breath and that is where a 50 trim would do better. But if you plan on running E85 and some decent cams, you can get into the 400whp range. 450whp may be a bit of a stretch, but its definitely possible.

Also, I just want to say that I'm currently using a Forced Performance turbo, and their hardware is top notch! Excellent build quality, design, and engineering, as well as excellent customer support! The price tag may be high, but you get what you pay for.

No need as you may not get the information you're seeking, as in this thread. It's a MHI Big 16G turbo with the compressor swapped to the 68HTA compressor (which currently does not have a map; only what guys are claiming to log) and the cover is machined to accept the larger wheel. The turbo is then rebalanced on a VSR and sold at $500 profit.

Blouch is doing the same only starting with an Evo III 16G instead of a Big 16G, and they're clipping the turbine to support the additional airflow (generally a $65-$85 service) and selling the turbo $26 cheaper than FP.
