Hey guys whats up? Well i curently own a 95 gst. I have a 6bolt, ported 2g manifold,o2 housing and 14b; intake with a k&n filter, boost controller, all free mods, full 2.5'' exhaust with no cat, ground kit, removed silencer, radiator hose uicp 2g throttle body elbow, and 1g bov. Aside from that everything is stock.(intecooler, injectors, pump, ect.) Last night i tried my car aout with a stock 350z and i took half a car on him. I want to keep my car almost stock but fast and i wanted to know what other mod i could do to make my car a little faster without going too expensive. right now im boosting 15lbs on my 14b.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks:dsm: :rocks:

Get DSMLink out of the picture. He doesn't have the money. It is not necessary to meet his goal.

I didn't say: SAFCs CANNOT MAKE POWER. Instead of picking apart what I said, simply because you've used something, try sticking to his point, and give him advice, as I have. What I stated was, I have not seen decent gains on an OEM equipped cars, such as his, with simply an AFC of any sort.
No one brought SAFC into the equation without also stating the use of larger injectors. However, factory tuned DSMs run around 9.4:1 A/F ratio at WOT through out 2/3s of the rev range. This can be leaned out to 10-11:1 and significant gains can be felt and dynoed.

In California they are an INSTANT failure point for emissions, so we seldom use them
Probably why you've never really noted any gains with an SAFC.

That car on a 4 wheel drive dyno is probably running richer than shit throughout the power band,
I later bought an LM-1 wideband and verified. not rich at all. around 11:1. I wa able to lean out at certain rpm points, 2 or 3, but not by moe than 5%.

BaseModelEvo said:
you can't monitor knock (you probably haven't even check to see if there is any!).
You know that a 1g DSM has a knock sensor and that all loggers log knock counts. You don't need DSMLink to get a logger.

BaseModelEvo said:
The car, despite making applauded power, is probably running very poorly and couldn't FAKE a California Emissions test.
It would pass a sniffer test. I have an LM-1 that i've used on countless ocassions.

BaseModelEvo said:
My recommendations for his were based upon an ability to tune, and to do it properly. Datalogging is one of the most important assest/tools you can have. To know what your car is doing, what's working, and what is not.
Yea, he needs a logger. But he doesn't need DSMLink to get one and he can save money because he doesn't want to run at a level that even remotely neccesitates DSMLink. I have DSMLink. Because I knew I needed it for the Level I planned on running at.

60-1, FP2Xs, 9000 rpms, water injection, 1000cc injectors? yes, DSMLink for sure.

14B, 550s, stock sidemount? no need if that is his stopping point.

DSM link is a good mod for a 95 eclipse, being OBDI still (or it should be) he wont fail emissions with a clean set up.
OBDII, but still a good mod for some one running over 350-400 horsepower

BaseModelEvo said:
He's also ready to run over 700whp.
My car would also be ready to fly if it had wings, but I don't want to fly. Hesaid in his first post that he doesn't want to run anywhere near that level. He doesn't want to spend close to $1000.

BaseModelEvo said:
AFCs used to work cause it's all we had. If he has the money to get the DSM link, he should.
He doesn't have the money... he said that.

BaseModelEvo said:
It's practical and VERY efficient.
It's very efficient. Like a 50-trim at 25 psi. But a 50-trim is not practical to a guy who wants 50 horsepower over stock.

Your backyard tuning doesn't impress me and your respect means dick to me.
What do you know of anyones tuning ability here? You have never been invited to anyone's back yard! You have seen no data logs. Dynoed no ones car here. []

Our Evo9 reflash and drop in filter net 318whp on 06 MIVEC Evos. They pass emissions.
I could do the same in my "back yard".

BaseModelEvo said:
They sell of the lot of San Rafael Mitsubishi with no problems. That's REAL. That's tuning. Fuel controllers are simplistic and outdated, but yes, they can work. Unfortunately in Cali, we have STRINGENT SMOG LAWS.
Fortunately this guy is not in CA. []

BaseModelEvo said:
The SAFC cannot do anything about boost creep, and because of it's wider RPM tuning bands, usually ends up spiking at some point. You wouldn't know, because you opted for a cheap-ass AFC instead of a datalogging DSMlink.
I have DSMlink. You are wrong.

SAFC has tighter rpm incriments than DSMLink. But 16 rpm points in DSMLink should be ehough for a good dynoshop to work with, right?

[]LOL It really chafes you that we choose to do what you do in our "back yard" for free.

As i recall I thanked the gentleman before me for his opinion and stated mine. Now this poor guy's thread is an arguement instead of a suggestion on his next mod..
You gave a suggestion that this guy cannot take. He can't spend that kind of money. He doesn't have to and shouldn't be pressured into doing such just becasue you work at or own a dyno shop and get paid to tune the car of some poor sap who has been convinced that he has to pay a specific dollar amount you dictate to play the game. Dynoshops have there place. But there's no need to listen to the advice of one who works at such a place when they tell you that EMS is a piggybackLOL !

Argue til you're blue, I say get the DSM Link and you'll be ready for anything. Several other suggestions, including the ones lay down by my nay-sayers were good as well with injector swaps, mafs, and downpipes. Do what your pocket book allows. Follow the advice you choose. I still recommend the DSM Link, it's an INCREDIBLE tool that wont outdate and the datalogging is INVALUABLE. Especially over an AFC. Best of luck, my apologies for the arguing on your thread. Welcome to life in the forums, LOL.
Arguement results in clarification, promotes truth, debunks naysayers, exposes falshood, and contributes to the knowledge-base. Forums are a hotbed of controversy where some of the most advanced techology, theory, and education brews. Come here and learn, or you'll leave because you refuse to.
To the original poster. . . What do you want? I want to clerify this because your first post is obviously to far up the page for BaseModelEvo to see. How much money do you have to spend?

First...I appreciate the response. Concise to each point you did not agree with, without being downright rude.

Second, Seeing he does not have the budget, I understand.

Next. Yes, in Cali, AFCs, S-AFC I&II, AVC-R, V-AFC, etc... along with any other obvious form of air/fuel modifier is illegal in Cali. They will impound your car. We seldom use them mostly for this reason.

Having a Dyna-Pak 4wheel drive hub type dynomometer and ECUTech's backing for reflashing OEM computer gives us a liesure you don't have in your "backyard." Literally a 1 rpm increment tuning ABILITY. Usually not constrained this tightly. You obviously know your shit, so before i go on...

But there's no need to listen to the advice of one who works at such a place when they tell you that EMS is a piggyback !

I know EMS IS NOT A PIGGYBACK. Hence EMS- Engine Management System. Lol. I didn't even realize I typed it until I was flamed for such typing. We're all entitled to mistakes.

My anger was toward a rude response to my seemingly innocent suggestion. I was simply trying to help, and a datalogger and AFC combined will run about the same price as DSM Link.

I appreciate your response, I agree, and I know what's possible in one's "backyard." At 17 years old, with a few pointers from ProStreet Industries (now ProStreetOnline.com) I was able to sink my 92 Talon TSi 6-bolt into high 11s on stock internals. With....yes...an AFC, a manual boost controller and other old DSM tricks. but it wasn't legal, and I wrecked it. (VR-4 brakes...work uh...nicely...) LOL.

Anyway...arguements result in nothing, discussion results in truth, knowledge, information base, etc. Thank you for clarifying for the original poster, I was simply throwing in my two cents. Hats off to you for a respectfull response, one based on facts and experience...and for getting back to the point. It's a shame so many threads end up like this one. Illogical irrelevant arguement completely devoid of direction or original subject matter. I look forward to observing and learning. Have a great weekend. Ciao.

Are you running on your stock clutch? If yes then I'd get an aftermarket that can handle an increase in power. ACT 2600 or something similar would be my recomendation.
