I slowly doing my exhaust from the turbo back and my next step is the O2 Housing. I have been looking at a Megan stock replacement but I have also seen these " Open dumps" and wondered if they are just for the sound or do they have any actual benefits? Any DANGERS I should be aware of? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated

So more or less it preference more than anything. The car is my DD so its not wot all the time but you know that it s some of the time or I wouldn't have bought it. I just am trying to make it as nice as I can one piece at a time and wanna do it right and keep the Dsm community in good standing along with it. Thanks for the advice. Will keep it recir.

I think it depends on turbo size.

With a small turbo where the gate is open all the time and at low revs, i would recirculate it.

With a bigger turbo the gate spends a lot less time open, and at that point getting a noise ticket is the least of your worries.

I love my Tial 44 with a dump, and would never put a closed setup on my car. It doesn't get old for me, because i'm not at full boost more than a couple times a day in street driving.

I have had open dumps on my 3000gt and in all honesty if your going to be dd it i would go recirculating just to keep it simple and quiet.

+1 Im the same way. Most days I dont hit full boost at all.

I dumped for 2+ years and loved it! Seriously though I didn't mind it at all and that was on my 16g.

You either get the dumptruck noise which is awesome or you get the wastegate noise which is equally sweet, Take your pick.

Im running the stock T25 @ 15psi at the moment. The PO has done some of the free mods for me like remove the boost solenoid and the ac and also the abs. I wish he hadnt but its too late now LOL. Anyways I am focusing on the exhaust 1st since it already has a tubular header on it that I think it would be nice to finish the exhaust out since I know that will free up some HP plus I like the more aggressive sound anyway. I treat my cars well and dont run the crap out of them. I do drive it tho an sometimes Im into the throttle but not all the time. I thought the idea sounded good with open dump but it would probably sound bad on the freeway when Im commuting.

if your not hitting full boost its not open, its really not that bad!
it scares the sh*t out of people when you open it next to them, especially if their windows are open.
I am actually thinking of getting rid of mine do to the fact i DD mine and only run stock boost, and sometime just want to hear the window in my ears! sometimes it might make me think, "why?" usually when im in traffic or im in a bad mood!
But Really its not that bad!

My car came with an open dump. I don't like it, I would much rather hear the turbo spooling than the wastegate opening.. But I'm going to keep it until I upgrade the turbo.

It does scare the shit out of people though. :D And when I get on the boost, I usually see people looking back at me in their mirrors and watching me as I drive past them with a "WTF is that??" face LOL.

ya it tough to say. I looked some up on youtube and it seemed like it sounded alright and deffinately has a distinct sound but what is your experience on the freeway? I would like to try both LOL and see what one I like better.. Anyone have a vid of theirs?

I have an open dump and I love it. I barely ever hit full boost since im running 24 psi on a big 16g (probably a bad idea), but when I do I know I'm at 24 without lookin at the boost guage.

My commute is 45 minutes of freeway with many overpasses and it never opens unless I mean to. Sure, if I pass someone in a hurry I can open it up but even then I'm just being overly aggressive since it goes plenty fast before the waste gate even begins to open.

If any of you are worried about it opening while driving around town and attracting attention then you need to slow down. It isn't hard at all to keep it closed while cruising.

I've had mine for going on 2 years now and I love it, I would miss it sorely if I got a recirculated housing. The only thing I don't like is how it dumps on top of my intercooler piping and oil feed line and makes a sooty mess in the general area. I've had them both wrapped already but it would be nice if I could find time to have an extension welded on.

I'm using one on an 18G btw...

Ya that would be hella cool to try that open dump. Ive been considering one. Would I have to pick up new gaskets or can we reuse the old ones?

Depends on the condition of the old gaskets but it's always a good idea to use new gaskets to avoid pulling it off again to replace one you reused...

I love my open dump.. I keep mine out of boost 95% of the time anyway.

I love mine! Its suuuuper loud when you want it to be but if you don't run your car hard its normall. It didn't fix my boost creep but there are plenty of other ways to get rid of it if you are having problems :D

Dont think I have boost creep but I was just looking at gettin a open dump vs. recirculated one. Sounds like a buddy of mine might let me borrow his for a lil bit. I will post a youtube video of it if I can borrow his. before and after so that everyone can hear it or hate it LOL.

I ran the o2 dump on my 98 gst, Still had it's T25, and it was not noticable. I would switch off driving my white 95 gst (evo316g, recirc) to the 98 and unless i was trying to gear bang like a honda on the way to work or school, it was just fine, But that being said, i don't boost 16psi from stoplight to stoplight.
