only have 2 gears

so for the past few days Ive had an issue shifting into reverse i would have to go from forth to reverse for it to go in. now this morning on my way to work i backed out of my driveway shifted from 1-5 no issues. I was down the road at a light shifted into where 1st would be but i was in 3rd gear . so i tried to find 1st but couldn't find it at all so i took off in 3rd shifted into 4th without any issues then tried to go into 5th and it goes into 3rd. when its in gear i have massive side to side play, pretty much the amount it takes to go from 1st to 5th. I'm going to look at the car now and want to know what you guys might think it is and what i should be looking for.

you should check your shifter base see if there is any damage, maybe needs new bushings and make sure your cables are still hooked up at both ends. i had one pop off the trans before had a similar problem.

Sounds like a cable fell off or broke. Check both ends out.

Ya check if the shift cable casings are still bolted down on the tranny. If not that and shifter cables are ok at both ends, check if the select lever shoe is broken: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/mai...t-fifth-gear-grinding-help.html#post152266167
