I will be able to answer these questions for other users but until then ill be asking them.

Might be a simple question but when adjusting my BISS screw, ill ground out the plug under the hood and also the 3rda up from the bottom prong on the right side of the obd1 port (which for some reason mine only has three while a saw on the tutorial on this sight that the one in the picture has four?)

Ill adjust the BISS scre until the idle is right around 800. Runs fine but when I unplug the ground clips from the obd1 port and the plug under the hood, put the cap back on the plug under hood and start it back up, the idle is right around 1200. If I again ground everything the idle will go back down to the 800other I set it at, but if I unplug the grounds it goes back up.

Any ideas?

No no im sry. There is no idle surge. The idle is constant and steady. When I have the ECU grounded and adjust the BISS the rpms are steady at 800. When I unground the ECU though, the rpms go up to a constant and steady 1200. There is no surging at all.

Its not the IAC either, its brand new.

Got any cable slack? You need about a eight of an inch of slack in the t-cable. It could be that the throttle plate isn't completely closing before you do thie BISS adjustment-why you're "running up" at 1200rpm.

Checked timing before you did the BISS adjustment?

I've heard of adjusting slack on the throttle cable but haven't seen how to do so.

I also checked the timing when I first bought it but am pretty new to these cars and not sure I did it correctly.

Just searched both, adjusting throttle cable and adjusting timing and came up with nothing. Im sure there has been much discussion on both, any idea where I could find a couple tutorials?

the service manual tells you to hook up an auxiliary tach to the plug under the hood(i believe anyways, i'm not looking at it right now) the reason being that sometimes there's a little difference between the two. i've always set mine at what seems to be a little low(like 600-700ish) and when you pull the grounds off it should settle right around where u want it. i've never had to actually use an auxiliary tach btw.

to adjust the slack in the cable, look at the bracket mounted above the intake plenum. check the cable near the TB to make sure it's not pulled too tight(aka no give when you touch it). u don't want it to have SLACK per se, but you should be able to tell that the throttle stop is what's stopping it and not the cable. if it's too tight, look at the bracket i mentioned. there's a few different ways to adjust it, but i usually just loosen the bolts that hold the bracket in place and slide it a little(the bracket holes are slotted)
hope this helped

I think it might be the cable slack. Been really busy haven't had a chance to adjust it. When i unhook the throttle cable from the TB I can tell that it closes more by looking at the position of the deal the cable hooks up to. Ill try adjusting it today if I get a chance. Thanks once again

You just loosen up the two 10mm bolts that locks down the cable retainer on the intake manifold and the unit will slide.

Slide the retainer forward to the left just a bit until you see the cable starts to look like it has a bit of a droop to it and with you grabbing the middle of the cable, there should be a quarter inch of vertical play, then lock down the two bolts. This will ensure that the throttle plate is definitely closed.

Then, you can readjust the BISS screw settings .. esp if the timing is correct.

Good luck - DSM
