I just got a Garrett t3 turbo from ebay, a guy with 100 percent feedback. The guy posted ready to bolt on and go. I bolted the turbo on today and the nut that hold the intake wheel on loosened up and the turbine wheel rubbed the housing. It doesnt look bad but I'm not sure what I should do. I sent the guy a messege today about it and am waiting for a reply. The housing and wheel dont look bad from what I could see. Is it ok to just tighten the nut on the turbo and run it? How bad does it have to be to consider a turbo blown? -Austin

as long as the fins arent bent then you should be a-ok

This is very bad advice... if you don't know what you're talking about, please research to be sure first before passing on bad information.

If you notice on a turbo, the nut that holds the wheel on is always shaved looking. The turbo spins at upwards of 150k rpms. This makes for some real jankyness if the chra is not balanced properly and will cause your turbo to die prematurely.

I would contact the seller.

Ok. So the guy told me the turbo was sold as is and he refused to refund. I want to get like half my money back for a rebuild. Should I get it rebuilt? Where? I heard that I could get the turbines lined up for $30. Should i just do that?

The seller posted when it was on ebay: ready to bolt on, no shaft play, sold as is. I told him that i only had it on for less than 10 minutes and boost 11 psi. The seller said it was not tampered with but that sounds rediculous. I overboosted my 16g turbo to 35lbs many times and it doesnt even have any problems or shaft play. T3 should be stronger.

honestly man i would bag the whole t3 ebay setup because it is every once in a while that you will get a good turbo i have went this route in the past and it is alot of work i would just go back to mitsu flanged. and buy a gt35r or scm 61 just something along that line.

Well let me fill you in, you don't know exactly what is going on. I have an eclipse with jdm swap with a 16g, I was just using that as an example of a great turbo. I bought the t3 for my friend's eclipse and I was going to sell it to him. He already has the setup for that turbo. So, we put it on and we thought it was good to go. We took it for two test runs, on the last test run the turbo made noise that it was scraping the housing. -Austin
