Resolved On the 2g eclipse gsx exhaust how many sensors does it need? Also if it's out in the rain can it hurt it?

I live out in the desert so I didn't think it would ever rain but it did once pretty hard last year and left the stock exhaust outside. I'm assuming it's fine but maybe the cat could have got messed up maybe? Also what kind of sensors does it need or any special hangers? The guy I bought the car from put a straight pipe on it and I'm trying to get it to pass smog so I need to install the stock exhaust he gave to me. I see one bolt hole on it guess that's one sensor is there another one? Any help and or advice is greatly appreciated to get this done.

There are two sensors, but the first is in the O2 housing. The second goes behind the cat like you figured out.

The cat should be fine, even if it was in the rain. Make sure no critters got in there, though.

I don't see any bolt holes except next to the cat. Where exactly is it located at on the exhaust? The back of my cat doesn't have anything connected to it so I assume it needs a muffler? Sorry still a noob. Is there like wiring on the frame of the car where the two sensors plug into? The guy butchered this car so idk if it's possible he removed wiring or something where the sensors connect to LOL. Here's a picture of what he sent me for the stock exhaust. I don't even know if it's the correct exhaust. I saw it has a mitsubishi logo on it which is encouraging.

If you have a picture, it wasn't attached.

Do you have a cat back or just the cat? I.e. is it about 18" long or several feet?

If it is just the cat, there will be two bolt holes on either end of the cat. The cat back will have an O2 sensor bung. There will be a spot on the bottom of the car that lets you connect the O2 sensor to the wiring harness. If you see some hacked wires, you'll have to wire it up yourself.

Not sure if it's even useable. In pics I looked at the oem exhaust it looked like there's braided material that goes around the pipe near the front near the engine. Mine has no braided material on it. Not sure if it needs that for the car itself and/or to pass emissions (I live in California). What part do I need that connects to the end of the cat near the back?

Ok, so the rusty chunk on the bottom of the pic is the cat. Those two bolts will bolt up to the downpipe. Two bolts = cat to downpipe connection. Three bolts = exhaust to muffler connection.

Just behind the cat, you should see an O2 sensor bung. You will need a good O2 sensor in there. It verifies that the cat is working properly.

You will need a muffler.

Muffler, exhaust tip (want to get a burnt titantium one), and I'm guessing it's called the mid pipe or down pipe? (don't know if that's the same thing looked at a generic diagram of an exhaust system) that'll have a bung for another sensor, and the sensors, and that should be what I need?

Under the hood of your car, in the front by the radiator, you'll see the exhaust manifold. Below this will be the turbo. As you're facing the car, to the right of the turbo will be the O2 housing.

There will be a sensor in there. That is the front O2 sensor. It's the one the ECU uses to adjust the fuel/air ratio.

Below the O2 housing is the downpipe. The downpipe takes exhaust from the turbo to the cat. This will bolt to the exhaust that you have. It will bolt up just about under the driver's seat. On the rear side of the cat, you will have an O2 bung. This will require a sensor. At the top of your photo, you will need to add a muffler with whatever tip you like.

So based on what you've shown, you'll need a 2 hole exhaust gasket (between the downpipe and cat) and then a 3 hole exhaust gasket (Between exhaust pipe and muffler) and then the muffler itself. Underneath the driver's seat, there should be either a plug in the floor to get the end of the O2 sensor in to the cabin, or a connector for the O2 sensor to plug into.

I'm guessing I need a downpipe as well since nothing is connected to the cat and a straight pipe is just that so there is no downpipe on those? Also is the down pipe different for the gsx because I'm google down pipes and it says specifically for fwd and the ones for a gsx are like $300. Is it possible to get one for like $100?

Fwd and Awd exhausts are different. The downpipe is different and the cat back is different as well.

Yeah inspected it and it appears the straight pipe isn't just a solid piece because it hooks up to the down pipe. Am I supposed to buy a gasket to fit between those or reuse the old one or is that not good? LOL same with the muffler I gotta connect to the cat that need a gasket too?
