ok guys need help. Quistion on downpipe

If i were to install a 2.5 inch downpipe running a stock exhuast will it encrease power or decrease? i currently dont have money for an exhaust but want to get a little more power off my car. would this hurt the performance or would i gain? Just want to know if it will hurt the performance or not or if its bad to do.

I ran a Megan DP on my GST with a stock cat-back, and the increase in exhaust note and performance was noticeable.

Well, 2.5 inches is bigger than the stock downpipe so I don't know why it would decrease power. Anyhoo, you're supposed to start upgrading the exhaust starting at the muffler and work your way forward. Having better flow up front probably won't INcrease anything considering the gasses still have to go through the plug at the back that is the stock muffler.

Plus if you get a DP that is made to fit on the stock catback, it will either connect to the stock cat, and you will be stuck in the future finding a flanged test pipe/cat or modifying your new DP to fit the larger aftermarket catbacks. Or it will eliminate the cat, but still be reduced to fit the stock DP, or you will have to modify the stock catback to fit your larger downpipe.. So as you can see in my opinion it would be easiest for you to either replace the catback first or save until you can do both the DP and catback at the same time. That way it will be an entirely bolt on affair.
