So rebuilding my dsm I broke the oil feed purchased new as from the local gov't shop don't the road put it together started running ran perfect until it got completely warmed up started smoking out of down pipe so I took it off the manifold and it was only coming from the turbo so upgraded to 20g and Fmic also got oil return line from STM started it up oil leak from return line and still smoking from down pipe rpm at idle is 3400 rpm I noticed smoke so I poped the hood my engine had flames under THE manifold behind turbo

Need some tech help

Ill make it simplified

A. Leaking oil

B. SMOKING OUT OF DOWN pipe

C. Car caught fire

D NEED SOME ADVISE

in the first post you said the fire was under the manifold behind the turbo.

the smoking downpipe might have been oil that you prob didnt clean out from the bad turbo you swapped.

did you degrease the engine before you started running it again or just leave oil everywhere.

alot of info is missing to accurately guess what the problem is.

X2... but the manifold/ turbo etc gets very hot so leaving a large amount of oil on them is not a great idea, fix whatever is leaking and wipe off whatever oil etc you can.

Motor was fresh no oilone on it. It wasI cleaned and painted

Turbo is brand new

I don't know how to stop the leaking from oil return they are both tight and gave gaskets

Guess I stumped the dsm nation

Do you have a good enough crank case ventilation system going on? If not it can keep blowing return line gaskets. Did you use new crush washers?

Figure out where oil is leaking from (start motor for 30 secs if necessary ), fix leak, no more fires ;)

The man has a good theory LOL. Just hose it down with some brake cleaner so you arent looking at old gunked up oil, then start it and watch for leaks. Also maybe invest in a good fire extinguisher.

Used my fire extinguisher thanks ilovebodykits.com for providing that for me I don't know where the crash washers would go

Use a 50/50 mix of Purple Power and water. Spray it on the engine, let it sit for a few minutes, then hose it off with clean water. Once your confident that there is no more oil on the engine, go to your local Auto Parts store and buy a bottle of UV reactive oil dye. Start the car with as little light as possible around the engine bay and use a black light (usaully included with the dye) to see where the oil is coming from. Remember oil drips down so trace the UV dye upward until you find where it's coming from.

Are you using crush washers and thread sealant?

Broke gst, he is referring to the crush washers and thread sealant to be applied to the bolts used to hold the oil return line to the oil pan. The bolts go all the way through the oil pan and if not sealed up properly it will always leak no matter what gasket you use.

Sell your car before you kill it. I'm tired of seeing DSMs die from backyard mechanics not knowing what they're doing. Go buy something else that doesn't need a ton of maintenance. A good ol' american V8 is pretty cheap to come by and parts are cheap also.

Or, you can do what was said already. Use brake parts cleaner and de-grease EVERYTHING in that area. Jack up the car. Run the engine. Find the oil leak. Repair the oil leak.

Take pictures to make it easier for us.

We all start like that, no one have born knowing all about DSM, he just need some time so he can learn about them.
With our help, time and practice, he will be enough mechanic to take care of his DSM and flip it up and down and in and out.
