Oil Question

I just sold my car but had a question to ask, when we were checking the oil level before a cold start the oil didnt come up on the dipstick, we turned the car on and let it idle for a bit and then the oil came up on the dipstick, but again when we turned the car off and checked again it didnt come up. Is that normal?

Your oil level was low. When you turn your car on it churns all the oil and it will read on the dipstick, but you can not get a reading of you oil when the car is on.
