im getting ready to change my oil and just wondering if i should use a thicker or thinner oil? i have never run a turbo before so im not sure wich would be better, any suggestions would help. thanks.

i use thicker in the summer 20w40, but 20w-50 is easier to find. i usually use castrol or valvoline dino oil. in the winter i switch to thinner like 5w-30 or 10w-30.

Mitsubishi recommends 10W30 as the thinnest possible choice for the turbo 4G63....5W30 is only recommended for use when the ambient temperature is below 60*f.

For older 4G63's with higher mileage I've always used Mobil 1 15W50; for newly-rebuilt or low-mileage engines 10W30 would be fine.

Yeah 5W is too thin to run in a 4g63. Especially if it burns oil.

+1 what he said is your best bet man.

unless your ready to find were all your oil leaks are I wouldn't put synthetic in the car.
