I did a new build been workin on it for a while. I used a new oem pump, it siezed 8 seconds into running. I got a new one and went threw all the steps to prepping a new pump. Deburred the gears, filled with assembly lube, then spun the crap out of it with a drill. I got it all together and noticed a whine very low at idle and louder as you rev it. I have a mechanical pressure guage, it reads 75psi at cold start and around 20psi at warm idle. The car has no balance shafts, straight cut gears, and a 90' ofh not ported. I was thinking the timing was too tight, im using a gates kevlar belt, and gates pullys. I reset the timing using the oem tools and got the same thing. A slight whine at idle and louder as you get on it. If the windows are up you cant hear it, you can just hear the guage (I think I need a new one, it whines too while the car is on and as rpms increase the guage makes more noise). But with the window down you can hear the what I believe is the pump. Any ideas guys? What to do or check? I looked at the covers, no rubbing or anything, no freys on the belt. Just worried, I dont wanna toast this new motor.

The straight cut gears will whine, but not really loud. Usually a really loud whine is the belt being to tight. Also the front cover for the straight cut gears is a different part number than the later ones. I have never noticed any actual differences in them. But, for safety sake, i only run the straight cut gears in a 90 case.

Extreme offers no such option. There is only a 6 bolt case, and a 7 bolt case. I set the timing like is done on vfaq. I used the drill bit in between the tensioner arm and hydrolic tensioner body. So im almost 100% sure the timing is good.

are pumps should be deburred. but don't spin it..pack plumb full of vasiline..in the neck too.
it creates a vacum that will pull oil instantly to the pump...
if i had a new oem pump fail that quick i would be SO MAD!!!
thats alot of work for it to fail so quick

1-g oil pumps will whine all the time...its one of the reasons they witched to helical style gears. to quiet the whine down.

I also have the same whine you describe after my rebuild.Same oil pump and tbelt as you. It worried me for a while but i now just figure its the gates belt making the noise.Only reason i say that is one of my evo buddys just put a gates belt on his car and it makes the same whine.I dont sweat it anymore, got 6,ooo on my engine now and havent had any issues whatsoever.I figure if the noise was something trying to blow apart it would have happened already.

My problem was I didnt spin the first one! It definately needs to be done... I had it packed full of assembly lube, thick shit. The drive gear shaft seized inside the case from lack of oil. Yes the pump was picking up oil, but didnt fully lube the shaft.
The front case with the straight cut gears is md129347, the helical 6-bolt front case is md175762. Also, what stub shaft did you use?
Where you getting the straight cut case? Im sure there are thousands of dsm guys who have bought front cases off extremepsi and they offer no such number. Ive read the gears are inter changeable as well. And its a full oem bsek kit.

honestly i've just used ne old case from the car..just check it for major scaring. but new oem gears wire brush the hell out of them. then a little 2000 grit paper. wash very good pack with vasaline..cause its petrolem based.its great for brake in too..and no.. 1-g dsms all my 6 bolt pumps are straight cut gears.. i've never seen different..did you buy the top line kit? i would use the top line case..but oem gear set..
only other pointers aremake sure to lock tight the balance shaft stub with red heavy lock tight.tourqe to 34ft/lb
and the back bolts blue lock tight.to 15 ft/lb
are you geting good oil pressure? if so heck with it..and rock the hel out'a thecar..

The gears got cleaned with a file and emry cloth. It picked up oil everything there is fine. It is ALL oem parts. Front case, gears, bsek, all of it is oem from extremepsi. I locktighted the stub and torqued it. The car has oil pressure. 75psi at cold start. 20psi and warm idle. Pressure never drops, Ive been watching that guage like a hawk..
