Hi All - Might be a newbie question, but I searched all over the forums and couldn't find my exact problem.
History: Bought a 1991 talon TSi AWD with a blown rod/hole in the block, and then found a professionally rebuilt/decked block and head. Moved over the ignition and exhaust and dropped it in.
Problem: After putting it all together I found my oil pump sprocket will only turn Counter Clockwise and feels a little "catchy". Trying to turn it Clockwise it locks as though it is clutched. Newbie error I tried to fire it up anyway (after not finding any posts) thinking it would work itself loose or perhaps something else internally would release the "lock". All that happened was a terrible sound from the crank chewing the timing belt as the belt itself was seized by the OP sprocket. Luckily the belt never moved, so the cams never moved from the timing marks and after examining with a camera, no damage to piston heads or valves.
Question: I'm wondering if the "pro's" put in the pump incorrectly, or used a the wrong one? I think EVO's mount opposite from the way Eclipses do it - (not sure if they they spin CCW as well?) - so could they have have installed the wrong one? Anyone ever have this particular problem?
Thanks!
